Hello - Guest speakers needed for: 'Amateur Night Thursday at The Raceway.biz'

Looking for experienced slot racers who are willing to teach a short 15 minute how-to seminar, 'slot car tips' - to new blood at the track on Thursday nights.  Seminar to be held after the race, before closing, before the register closes - so we can get what we need to get better.

We can coordinate topics with amateur racer input and Bill Pinch's advice.  First seminar/workshop Oct 16th?

No experience necessary, I will help you present, you just gotta help with show and tell...and knowledge.

No Paycheck, but you will feel good when the kids come up to you later to say 'thanks mister'.

Topics like:

How to drive a slot car - fast, slow, wreck, yikes!  Feathering the trigger on corners after initial braking, etc.

Slot Car Maintenance - clean and tune, when do you oil and where, what to check before next race day

Parts - when to change braid, when to change tires

Gear Mesh - How to tune the axles and gears

My hopes are to engage the new blood into sticking around - we need to grow some new racers!

(and I NEED PRACTICE to go after the pros, hahahaha)

I'll get everyone onboard Slotblog for mid-week frequently asked questions, we need a bridge to get from Newbie to Pro!

PLEASE HELP!

Charlie,  I want to commend you for getting the amateur nite started at Bill's track in Melbourne. We all know that we need new racers in the slot car world. Also, the guest speaker is a very good idea.  I am not the fastest guy around, but I do have some tips. However, on Oct 16th, I will be up in Ohio visiting ailing brothers and sisters.

What you are doing may resuscitate the Thursday nite racing program.

Doc - I hope your family gets well before you get to OH!  Sounds like you're volunteering for a different Thursday night?  Would love for you to help out!

I think the seminars will be a way to avoid the fear newbies have of pros.  Intimidation freaks out geeks, IMO.

Of course, a racer is not only supposed to grimace at competitors, it's a requirement.

I'm not scared...

Charlie, you could ask Danny Zona if he would volunteer. He's from FL & would be very helpful on race car setup.

Great idea and something that is important at all raceways.

Tony- how about just the general subjects of car prep, things that apply to all cars. I'm sure you could help out there. ;)

I'd be down for this but the travel time would really impact my nap times. :)

Unfortunately Im real limited on time these days or I would gladly help. I know FL legend Terry Tawney who is a local would help if he has time. He has showed me a lot of helpful tips over the year's.
Test, test, test and go test some more.

Terry Tawney would be an excellent choice as a guest speaker. He is a former national champion. He is always fast.

Bill's raceway has many knowledgeable and always helpful racers... all mentioned plus Steve Bowman, Matt B., Bill, Dennis D.,...etc...

If Thursday night takes off there should be help for any new racers.

IIRC, Marty was doing this kind thing over at ASR.

I been thinking...When the red 'OPEN' sign is lit at The Raceway, business is going on.  It might be better to arrange the seminar/workshop offsite - my office is 10 minutes from the track and we have a work table big enough for this group.  Before anything goes, gotta check with Bill Pinch.  Let's see what kind of feedback I can get from the new racers.  Free Pizza usually helps generate interest!
