Sounds like it might be a Champion Sportsman. These arms, wound by Proslot, were available balanced & unbalanced. They're the same thing as a Contender.

If its old and looks like it was wound by a blind guy it's about the same speed as current day 16d.

The new current production sportsmen arms are much faster then 16ds

This SP arm is probably made for a C-can motor. If you have an empty D-can, stick the arm in it. If you have all kinds of end play, its made for the shorter C-cans.

A 16D arm is 70 turns of #30 gauge wire on a .600" long blank.

A group 11 Sportsman/contender/challenger/competitor is 55 turns of #30 wire on a .440" long blank.  A little less flywheel mass and a hotter wind than a 16D. Many of these arms were sold as a hotrod 16d, but apples and bannanas should not mix.

A Super16D arm is 60 turns of #28 wire on a .500 long blank...much hotter and close to the #27 wire of a grp 20.

I remember racing a MURA Wasp in a C can back in the day. Same as a Contender/Sportsman ?

Group 11 - yes,   Wasp is a shorter blank and different wind

Wasp and 12 are same blank dimensions; grp 15 and contender are same (longer) dimension.

If it is one of the unbalenced ones, send it in to have it properly balenced and reconditioned.  As an older arm, it likely has lower timing, higher torque, and a few less max rpms than a modern arm on the thinner web blanks...may be better in a drag class.
