One of our Retro Tokyo racers, who just bought a Koford 325H power supply, asks me if he can use it for breaking-in retro motors in water.

He says the instruction sheet of the power supply warns against using it for water-break-in.

How should I reply to his question?

Thanks in advance,

Haruki

Reply with a question... "would you put a TV in the bathtub?"

The straight answer - "I wouldn't" ...

Use rechargeable AA battery pack in series to your prefered voltage.

Wow, if I had a power supply, I wouldn't want to damage it...is that why the friend asked first?

I probably would have tested it while waiting for the reply... :bomb:  :bomb:  :hang3:

Only perform this near-death procedure barefoot, standing in water, outside, during a lightning storm...while texting.

What He Said - use AA batteries - Gator Bob was your outcome good breaking in motors underwater?

I wouldn't do it, unless the leads have been lengthened/extensions are used. The power leads coming out of my 325H are a whopping 3 inches long.

I would want to read the instructions to see if they include an explanation why it shouldn't be used.  Water break-in doesn't include submerging the power source too. :wacko2:

Water break in can also up the amp draw.

I never found water break in to be better than more traditional methods, it is of most benefit when the brushes are much harder than what we find in most sealed motors.

I would'nt think a retro hawk would draw enough amps with the water break-in to hurt the power supply..
Yes it probably would with the more powerful motors,, this just covers Kofords butt with the warning of not too.

Probably can put a fuse in line on the leads?
I have a 6 volt battery charger that only puts out 1 amp.. About 4" x 6" very small..maybe you can find one of those..

I've used my Koford supply for water break-ins. I left the lead wires on the motors, and attached the Koford's leads to them.

Mine didn't come with an instruction sheet, so I didn't know any better. :D
