Nice-looking coupe, Bud!
I read a piece the other day on Red Farmer that said he was still racing into his 80s. He's got to be the senior member of the "Alabama Gang".
Is this one of Billy Watson's bodies on a JK Cheetah 7 F1 chassis?

What race is this for?
Posted 24 November 2014 - 07:03 AM
Yes, that is a Billy body. We race these at the Dungeon in Prattville, AL, first Saturday of every month.
Let me know if you need more information.

Bud,
That body is too nice to race. Maybe we should have a concours in this class.
Here at the Dungeon track we race this car on the first Saturday each month.
We use the old JK Cheetah 7 Indy chassis, and to keep the speeds down we use a Slick 7 Mini Brute type motor. The bodies are a free handout, and everyone must use the same body.

A word to the wise, if you do come to race this class at The Dungeon, don't plan on "rattle-canning" one of these bodies out back with a can of lacquer paint.
They need acrylic paints (unless you enjoy picking paint flakes off the track).
To my knowledge, nobody sells acrylics in spray cans, so that leaves two choices - airbrush - or multiple thin coats brushed on in different directions.

Bill,
Red Farmer is somewhere in his eighties but won't tell anyone his exact age. He does say he was born in Nashville TN and lived a short time on the hill about a half mile behind the Fairgrounds track. So he tells people he's been around racing his whole life!
There was about 10 houses on the hill you could see from the track and their backyards would be full when there was big races.

Pablo, I have some Pactra Lacquer I got from Shirley and Steve and it sticks to Billy's bodies. It is possible that it is not on the market any more but they still have some in stock. If you're interested call her before the race, she doesn't usually bring it.

Very cool, Bud, thanks.
Red, you may have found a lacquer that sticks to non-Lexan bodies, and that's fine, but I still stand by my words. Using lacquers on any body material other than Lexan for racing is an excellent recipe for flaking, cracking, chipping, and peeling. Not saying there is anything wrong with these type bodies - I have drawers full of them - but they really need acrylic paints. Maybe you "got away" with rattle canning Billy's body with lacquers, but mark my words, don't try it with a thinner body. R/C Polycarbonate paints and Patra lacquers are designed to actually "eat" into the Lexan for a little bit of "bite".

Solvent-based paints used on a PETG plastic body might adhere okay, but they will make the plastic brittle. Web pages for PETG bodies, such as Patto's & Tom Andersen's, indicate painting them with only an acrylic paint. I don't know if Krylon Fusion, a paint formulated for plastics, would work or not.

Hey Red, did you see the complete (integral) interior of Vince's GTP body completely melt and FALL OUT of the car today ?
Wonder what caused that ? Probably had nothing to do with using lacquer paints that destroy those type bodies, eh ?
Must have been the full moon, or sunspots.

I think his driver saw how bad things were going and just wanted out.

I just got back from Pigeon Forge. I better get mine and Steve's bodies painted and mounted. Anyone want to guess what colors???
Posted 30 December 2014 - 09:42 AM
One red, the other one blue
Posted 30 December 2014 - 10:01 AM
Just having returned from Pigeon Forge, I'd guess Dolly Parton Pink ?
Bill, if he paints one red, one blue, and red's favorite color is blue, then red paints his blue and Steve's red.

Pablo, are you saying Red's nickname should have been 'Blue' except he once had red hair? Or was that a dog named 'Blue.'
Posted 30 December 2014 - 06:51 PM
Alright you guys, I still have red hair. Maybe not as red as it once was (on my head) It's the beard that's grey.
And I do have my picture with Dolly
