Since Bobby's crew chief Billy Gerhart is a Slotblog member and a Retro racer, this should be of interest to many here.

Bobby Gerhart Racing (BGR) has announced that it has re-signed Lucas Oil for the 2015 ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards season.Gerhart Brothers discuss at Daytona

"The 2015 season marks our 12th year with Lucas Oil,” Bobby Gerhart said.

“We are very proud of our association with Lucas Oil and the success that we have enjoyed together at Daytona. We are looking forward to another strong effort in the 2015 Lucas Oil 200 presented by MAVTV American Real at Daytona."

“Another strong effort” is what most have come to expect from Gerhart when it comes to Daytona.

The Lebanon, Pennsylvania, veteran, with his brother Bill Gerhart as Crew Chief, is the all-time winner at Daytona with eight victories among 10 top-five finishes and 15 top-10s. He is also atop the all-time ARCA lap leader total at Daytona, leading 518 laps overall in 14 races, the equivalent of 1,295 miles. His Daytona career marks also include four Menards Pole Awards presented by Ansell.

“We’re shooting for our seventh win with Lucas Oil and ninth overall. We won three in a row twice with Lucas on the car. It’s been a great relationship, and we’re honored to bring it back for ’15.”

Bad news Bobby's car got wadded up on the third lap. One of the young guys got to pushing and turned a car running in the fourth row and it took out eight cars or so. Bobby is always a favorite at Daytona; he knows how to get through the air.

At least Will Kimmel didn't get crashed out. They've had bad luck the last year and maybe today things will turn around. They lost both speedway cars a few weeks ago in other guys crashes in the Daytona testing. The Kimmels are local guys and are running a shoestring budget the last couple years, so maybe today they will get the finish that has eluded them.

Yeah, I hated like heck to see that happen. I thought Bobby was very kind with his comments in the post-crash interview.

FWIW one of my former slot racing "partners" used to crew for Frank Kimmel...

When Kimmel racing was on top, they had the race shop a mile from my house and I walked through there nearly every day. They had 10-12 cars at times and if any of the other ARCA guys were racing in the area their shop was always open to them. Those guys were always friendly and welcomed visitors.

When they split from Featherlight Trailers and Pork the other white meat, they closed the shop and moved to another location. They left behind some nice plywood tables that were of no use in the new shop. Two of those had casters and moved easy. Those two became my slot car track table for a few years.

The grandfather, Bill, was a local legend and I saw him race at the Sportsdrome (local short track) every week when I was about 10 years old.

Bad luck for Will, as he ran out of gas with two laps to go and in fourth place.
