Here's wishing "Liquid Lou" a quick recovery from his injuries.

(For member who don't know, Lou was an active Retro slot racer some years ago.)

Liquid Lou - I had many dealings with him over the years. He is a very nice guy, and also raced a lot of R/C dirt late models for years; that is how I got to know him.

Best wishes, Lou!!! Get well soon!!!

Lou also owned a track and hosted a few AMSRA Nats races and a USRA Nats race in a hotel ballroom in Philly. He is a very nice guy and cool as they come. We had a lot of good times racing and hanging out.

Best of wishes, Lou. Get well soon, my friend.

I was at the race and saw Lou's accident. He landed very hard. I visited him in the hospital the next day. He was in a lot of pain, but the good news is he will not need any surgery. He was fitted for a back brace and is now home. As long as he wears the brace, takes it easy, and let's time do its thing he will be in good shape.

But anyone who knows Lou knows he is not one to sit still. LOL. But he is in good spirits, laughing and joking like always.

From Trenton, NJ's Area Auto Racing News:

Cicconi Released From Hosptal After TQ Crash In Trenton

TRENTON, NJ – Veteran open cockpit driver Lou Cicconi, Jr., of Lester, Pa., is resting at home as of Monday, December 22 following his release from Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton.

Cicconi was injured in a crash in the Len Sammons Motorsports Productions Three Quarter Midget ‘Battle Of Trenton’ feature Saturday, December 20.

Cicconi sustained a non-displaced fracture of the first lumbar vertebra (L1) after hitting the Jersey barrier retaining wall head on, then spinning around and slamming down on the concrete track surface wheels first. The car did not overturn. No other drivers were involved in the crash.

In the immediate aftermath of the crash, Cicconi told EMT workers at the scene that he was experiencing sharp lower back pain.

The EMT team, led by Track Services Coordinator Warren Alston, employed the use of anewly designed half-size backboard, designed and built by the Farmingdale-Howell First Aid Squad, which immobilized the driver as he remained in the car’s seat.

Alston directed his team to cut the ‘halo bar’ above the drivers’ head. Then, the team sheared the metal head rest support. Next, Alston had his team raise the front of the car physically to allow the force of gravity to assist in the extrication which included the introduction of a full size backboard under the half size device.

“We took all the precautions,” said Alston. “He was in pain, we knew it was a back injury and the extrication was crucial.”

Reached Tuesday by AARN, Cicconi said he was in considerable discomfort from back pain.

Cicconi, 50, had said Sunday while still in the hospital that he had never broken a bone nor spent a night in a hospital in nearly four decades of competition.

Well wishes may be forwarded to 300 South Governor Printz Boulevard, Lester, PA 19029.

And Lou placed the ad below in this weeks AARN:

I still want to know how he got that nickname, though... LOL!

I think it associated with him being a smooth driver... I stayed at his house a couple of nights and practiced on his track in his garage.
It paid off for the Nats...

Great guy...

Get better, LOU...

Smooth is part of it. The other is his ability to conform to any style race car and be fast. Bruce Lee always reflected on himself being like water, because water conforms to any shape, more or less adapting to any situation or scenario.

Lou was always good behind the wheel of any race car, on dirt or asphalt. Old school like his father and brothers, Bob and Guy. If you ever found yourself racing side by side with him, you knew he would run you hard and clean. Lou rarely puts a wheel wrong. The racer's racer.
