This past Saturday I took the time to visit a brand new track in Saluda, VA. The track owner/manager is a long-time slot car racer and hobby person by the name of David Strawser.
The track is a glass smooth 70' true oval and is rumored to be the one built for JK Products for their demonstrations. This track is smooth enough to appeal to all oval track racers from the Virginia NASCAR people to the Outback and Portsmouth Motor Speedway hand built Dirt Late Models to the Wing Sprint cut down Womp people of the PA area. Anybody in the area of 126 General Puller Highway in Saluda Virginia needs to bring their cars and have a blast on this track The phone number is (804) 758-2702 and as of now they are open from 3 PM to 9 PM on weekdays and from 10 AM to 10 PMon Saturday and Sunday.
I might also note that there is a Chinese food place next door and that is a plus, because I have seen very few slot car tracks exist without Chinese take-out and pizza delivery.
Note, there is also a rumor that a 1,000' drag strip will be built in the very near future for you straight line guys and girls.
My bad, the name of this great raceway is Thunder Road Raceway.
