Clarification please.

What are the 'rules' or guidelines for posts being locked.

I just learned today that they can be locked if Greg considers them repetitive.

See HERE.

The administrator can lock any thread for any reason. But he doesn't.

Its his sandbox, don't pee in it.

I'm pretty sure that, any rules aside, it's a judgement call by a pretty "light touch" moderator like Greg.

When stuff starts to get nasty, the decorum of the place can be affected. That can chase away prospective members, and even make existing members feel less like participating. When stuff goes way off topic (jokes, non-info, completely different subject, etc.), it's frustrating for the original poster and diminishes the "information value" of the content.

Making the call when a thread goes south seems mostly like a discretionary thing, rather than a hard and fast rule thing... it really has to be.

Bob,

It's my sole call when to close a thread, just as it is when to delete a post. There's no Slotblog "rulebook" for you to reference and to debate.

Being civil and "playing well" with the other denizens in the asylum are important factors, but there are others. For example, when other members start complaining about a particular member's posts.

Most of the time, the community itself lets me know when to lock a thread or to ban a member but I make the call to pull the trigger or not.

:laugh2:

Bill,

The only thing funnier than that would be if Greg goes and does it. :sarcastic_hand:

Sometime when I am creating a thread that will ultimately have several related "parts" I lock the thread until I am done so the parts will be sequential.
