Shiny!

Love those "snakee" front uprights. Done it a time or two like that myself but now I prefer the Davis hoops.

It looks terrible, Pablo.  :) I think you should throw it away. You can send it to me and I will dispose of it for you.

What's up with the short front axle?

Eddie, don't tell me by "dummy front axle" you thought I meant "Bunky", my (mythical) brother-in-law with the mullet haircut?  :laugh2:

The .094" piano wire dummy only served to (temporarily) connect the split nosepieces and set the axle height for correct placement of the "Z" uprights.

No need to put more front axle length in the tumbler than necessary, eh?

You still there, Eddie?

Still around Pablo.

That's good thinking on the short axle for the tumbler.

I am learning watching you work.

Nice work.

Thanks, Eddie.

The secrets of slot car handling were discovered through trial and error back in the late '60s/early '70s, so it's important to remember our past.

I didn't invent any of this - I'm just copying. Just like Rock and Roll - it evolved from Scottish ballads, Rhythm 'n Blues, Soul, Rock n Roll, Heavy Metal, etc.

There is nothing new under the sun. I just have better tools and the internet.  :D

I see I can't ask about where your plaque is at, but I could complain about its's placement.  :laugh2:

Nice job on the chassis, Pablo.  :)  Now you have to build yourself a version so it can be tried at Billy's & Greg's.

Thanks, Bill.  :) Time for assembly.

Eddie, I sliced the dummy into pieces. That way I don't need as much heat to remove it.

Will wonders never cease, the front end didn't fall apart after all.  :laugh2:

.766 OD front wheels shod with Wonder Rubber.

All rotating surfaces faced true, and polished with 2000 grit.

A five thou steel spacer between retainers and hubs.

My math says .025 clearance will make it clear well, and if the tires ever wore down to .750 the (theoretical) clearance would be .017

Now, where did I put those doggone .025 strips? :dash2: :D

Out of the tumbler. It's just an experimental design, so it ain't real pretty.

Time for assembly and final checks before she goes to Ohio.....

Thanks James :)

Flag is blueprinted, of course. Despite the fact Parma flags are true right out of the bag, "Trust, but verify"

Flag and Slick 7 tongue rotating surfaces are faced with a Magnehone tool:

Final tongue check for right/left true, and a very slight tilt to allow for .820 rears:

Pappy gifted me that recessed block many years ago and it is still my favorite for retro. Still as flat as the day he gave it to me.

Thanks guys. It's only an experiment. Simple attention to detail will always win.

Pablo, beautiful build and I thank you for the detailed pictures and descriptions of design function. Between your builds and the ones chronicled by Jim F, I get to see areas in my own technique that need improvement!

The bit of piano wire used to brace the relief cuts in the bracket, I'm unsure whether to classify you as a genius, or myself as a fool for not thinking of that one

Thanks James. I gently stress a bracket in my meaty fingers, sense where it might flex, and try to eliminate it.

The motor box is one area I don't want movement of any kind.
