It is a brake mechanism for something but what? Slot car?

Looks like an R/C airplane wheel brake to me...mid to late 60's maybe early 70's?
Can't really tell, but does one side of the drum bave some molded in pins that would fit between the spokes of a DuBro (or similar) model airplane wheel?

The hub which is wrapped with a piece of music wire, is metallic and has 2 pins protruding from one side. I Don't know anything about R/C planes ! How would a brake be actuated on a R/C plane, a separate servo ? Would this be for 1 wheel , part of a pair ?

A taildragger uses one servo to control both wheel brakes, so this makes sense to me too. So I agree with Tom, but there should really be two of them.
Never seen anything like that for slots though.
But, could it be for early RC cars as well?

On an aircraft with a "Tricycle" landing gear, you typically only have a brake on the nose wheel.
You would run a piece of monofilament fishing line, attached to the clevis, (the pin of which goes thru that little loop on the end of the wire) and the line then goes straight up the strut, thru a curved piece of brass tube to act as a guide, back to the elevator servo. You set it up so that down elevator pulls on the fishing line to tighten the coil around the drum.
