Rafael's "long version" of his track:

2015-05-02 17.17.42.jpg

We will be running on the new "short layout", the long straight in the foreground is shorter, it stops just under the overpass

Ran some laps on Rafael's new short layout. Running about 6 seconds laps.
Fun and good rhythm.

Rafael worked hard to ready his track for today's race, everything was great, thanks Rafael for hosting!

The stock car was faster than the Modified?

In this case it was. My modified, even with 2.1 gearing, had so much torque the tires spent a lot of time spinning on the surface. I think these red-tint tires lose grip as they age, and I can't seem to get the bite back.

Points standings after three rounds:

stock class:  st.png                         mod class: m.png

next and final race of this season: Oct 11th at Big Lou's in Culver City

With best 3 out of 4

In stock class:       Eddie has max point potential of 65, but with 55 already after 3 races, Eddie has it wrapped up.

Mike 48 points, can finish 2nd if he can finish ahead of Tim and a bunch of other guys in the final race.

Tim 52 points, can finish 2nd in points.

Tom and Craig also can finish 2nd in points with a max of 50.

Basically, 2nd is up for grabs.

In mod class, 1st place is between Eddie and Mike.

The stock car was faster than the Modified?

The mods where 0.2 quicker in lap times, but utilizing that advantage was difficult in the race, being on the spec tires the mod are a handful, while the stock class cars were easier to drive fast.

Eddie's mod was a nervous looking car, but Eddie consistently drove it deeper than I could my, Eddie drove my car in practice and was 0.1 faster than what I could do :dash2: . I'm surprise to be only a couple laps back, it seems like Eddie passed me 10 times in the braking zones,     lol :laugh2:

Often an inline slot.it run with minimum weight will out handle a anglewinder of the same weight. I know the modifieds you are running are sidewinders but the tires seem to be the limiting factor here. Isn't the motor the same?

Yep, the motor is the same. It's my first sidewinder Slot.it, and it seems to be much faster. It could be that it's just a faster motor. I didn't test it outside of the car. Mike is right: I was able to turn faster lap times with my Modified, but it was much harder to keep on the track. I didn't crash much in the Stock race.

The problem is the tires, you add more weight and it doesn't seem to help. I know the problem. What gearing did you use? 2:1 seems quite radical. Stock gearing is like 2.91

the 2.1 was for BPR. for Rafael's short layout I used a 2.5 ratio. that seem to put the motor rpm up higher in the turns so the torque is not so much when you get on the power out of the turns. Eddie was spinning the tires a bit out of the turns.

since seeing how Mill and Craig ran there cars at BPR, I added more weight, and also added some tape across the front of the pod to dampen the float. it smooth out the car for the way I drive.

I have been exploring dampening ever since a pm discussion I had with Duffy. and I recall a race engineer's writing on how individual Indycar drivers would prefer different rates of shock dampening.

so I have been tuning my car's rate of dampening to suit the way I drive. using different tapes to alter the dampening.

One of the first retro chassis that suited me well was a Samson chassis that had bronze rails. Its rate of responses suits my way of driving, other chassis I had were too snappy for me.
