Inside an unassuming shed in Hope, the whistle of ready-to-run slot cars could be heard racing four at a time around a 30-metre track, as competitors vyed for the NSR Challenge Cup.
Nelson Slot Car Club president Tony Cook organised the first challenge last year after a recent revival in the popularity of the sport.
This year, more than 40 slot car racers from around the country arrived in Nelson for the event, said to be one of the biggest in the country."
