Nice car!

Seeing the floor pan reminded me that the Galaxy was the only one legal for the Grand National (Cup) cars till into the mid-70s. I never knew what was so special about the pan but even as strict as NASCAR was the Galaxy had to be used in every make.

Can't believe the Wood Bros. would have ever transported a car on a trailer like that! Stock car racing has come so far.

Don't know when Marvin Panch  returned to that car but he was burned pretty bad in a sports car race before the Daytona 500. Tiny Lund won that year's race as his replacement.

Race report:

DSC_8935.JPG

Having fun - I am the older guy in the green t-shirt

Only  8 drivers, but great fun !!  I was the first race in this area (in the country?) for these cars, so we had not expected a great turnout, but that attended, can't hardly wait for the next race :-)

I have only raced one time before for the last 4 month due to illness so I really looked forward to race, eben I

if i was a bit nervous if I could hold out for the complete race, but as it turned out, I had no reason to be nervous and a has a ball og a nght :-)

DSC_8944.JPG

We ran best of two rounds and 4 min. stints on the the 6 lane track with 4 drivers in each heat. Qualification determined your start position/heat:

My car was fastest in practice and i won qualifying, which was nice as the first heat with the slowest drivers was a messy thing with a lot of track call.

My heat had nearly no track calls and only a few incidents. I took the lead from the start and never looked back, and even an accident caused by a car i my lane, which cost me 4-5 laps in pit for repairs, did not bring my heat win in danger.

DSC_8978.JPG

The first heat  in second round was more calm and the drivers seemed to get more familar with their cars and the second heat were nearly a copy of the first round, as I took off and left the other fighting intensely in my trail :-)

Concours was won by Preben:

Generally there was very intense and fast racing all the evening and the spirits were high and all racers really enjoyed racng these cars :-)

After the race all agreed that we should have another race as fast as possible :-)

Mark, we race at 18volts

These motors are big and heavy, but they last for years and are very similar in performance.

We use them in our WP CanAm class too and on year I raced one 10 hour race, one 6 hours race and our National Championship series as well as our local club series + practice with the same car and motor :-)  I dont know how many hours this motor clocket, but it was surely impressive.

Yours, Niels, DK
