There was a proxy /individual timed lap trial with cars based on the 1966 Rod & Custom race series
And, it was pretty BadA$$ ...
Do we need a venue, a place to run cars under R&C, CM, NCC, etc. rules?
I say yes.

There were Car Model proxy drag races.
They actually started Sandy and me slot car racing. I went to Polks Hobbies on 34th st and 5th aver NYC to buy the parts to build a dragster to mail in. When i saw the 4th floor at Polk's with the track and racing i only wanted to have a car to race there. Sandy built a car and mailed it in and i think won his class. After that he became interested in racing at Polks.
In the last of the CM proxy drags ,not sure if it was #2 or #3 i worked there with the car model crew. It was in Hartford Connecticut . I was only 16 yrs old and i was rooming with the great Bud Anderson the famous Kat from AMT. We had a blast running all those cars some of course did not do what they were supposed to.

Great story Howie..
How cool is it you have that point of reference of the beginning. Guess this is where "the rest is history" applies for you and Sandy. Well done both.
So ... you both built cars, you stayed home and Sandy hit the parachute hardest at the other end of the parking lot and got the win?
