... since the late '80s. I bought the Atlas 206BB motors from AutoWorld and they came with press on 10t pinions. I built "Atlas Scratch" around one of these and the 10 was too big to fit a crown and get the car low. Didn't want to 'screw-up' the brass tabs and separate the plates to get a puller on.

There is no way to get any other gear puller in there... till today. I borrowed it from Steve King to do 4 Atlas and one 'what ever it is' that had an 8 tooth...

Thanks, Steve!!!

It's simple and it works perfecto, will last forever with care.

MR Slotcar may have a gear puller that works as well.

Gator is right as usual. NOTHING except this obscure Strombecker tool will cleanly do the job. It makes me feel less like an idiot that you also had this issue.

The old Trinity gear puller might have fit too. The one I had wasn't very strong & broke after awhile. Some day I'll have to try to fix it.

What are you going to do with these "Atlas Scratch" vehicles once you get them built? :to_become_senile:

I don't know all the brands but out of about 5 diff styles none could get behind the pinion with the plates so close.

Now that I got the gears off ... the one motor will go 'Back in Scratch'

Next will be a 1/32 rail job. Probably beveled gears all around as big of a crown I can find that fits.

Dennis, whose gear puller is this one? It looks to be a quality unit, even though I've not seen it before. Its double ended screw probably means it'll fit both 2 mm & 1,5 mm pinions.

Bob,

No, Some of my Atlas & Pittman 195/196s still have the monster pinion gear which leaves ZERO room for the crown. Strangely, I can shoehorn in a standard puller on Strombecker inline motors! Go figure, Looks like I'll be scrounging Flea Bay for #8540. Where you plan to get a bevel gear set? And where's Oscar & Auto World when you really need them?

That looks like it will work. Ditto on who has them?

Those little Atlas motor can scoot if the car is very light if it's to run on commercial power.

Steve spotted it....

Yup 8540 just like in the picture, could be a hard to find when your looking item, the one Dennis links looks good if available.

I'll go through what I have in 64p beveled and hope to come up with a 3.5 to 5.0 range. If not then ebay. Last resort is trying that 8t 48p brass showing. The 10t steel are really nice but not for these.

Thanks Guys! Saves me from getting out the Dremel Tool & whacking @ the big 10t to get it out. That wouldn't have been pretty.

Looking @ the PM puller, it might work on some of the tight ones, but it looks too big for the Pittmans where you only have 3/8th of an inch inside to work with.

EJ's might still have some bevel gear sets but they were all wacky ratios like 2:1 or 6:1.

Patto's Place has 3 ratios listed 4:1, 3.5:1, 3.1:1 @ AU$5.00/set.
