My old facility has closed down and I sold off one of my tracks. My remaining MDF track was too large to fit in the space I had available at home.

So I designed a modification that only slightly changed the plan of the track. My friend Garold Page of Orange City took down the old track and is rebuilding the new raceway.  It has been shortened from 65' to 55' and the table changed from 16' x 8' to 16' x 6.5'.  We hope to have the track running by the first of July.

Here are some progress images.

That be Garold Page who I would recommend to build a custom routed track for anyone.

That's going to be nice!

Commercial tracks have to be long and contained in an expensive space so they are not like home tracks. Short home tracks have the high traffic, bump and grind atmosphere of a 1:1 quarter or half mile oval.

Tony or Bob, 1/32 scratch or only plastic? Is it magnetic?

You bring enough for everyone to run and we will race them. Just not much interest around here in 1/32 scratchbuilt slot cars.

They limit the magnet pull. It's pretty light so the cars still slide around. Nothing at all like the HO cars.

Bob,

Your track is fantastic but did you think about this opportunity to change over to braid? It lays down very easily with the double-sided tape.

I decided to stay with the copper tape for economic reasons. I would need 440' of braid to do the entire track plus the extra time of routing and I'm not mobile enough to fix braid when it comes up.

Hi Bob:

Your track looks like it will be a lot of fun.  I would recommend that you try racing the new 1/32 JK Cheetah.  I've driven one and it's amazing how great they  handle.  Anyway I'm looking forward to running on your track when I'm in Central Florida.

Garold and I ran about 50 laps on all four lanes.  After he finishes installing the remainder of the railings I will install the trakmate lap timer and set up the computer.

Garold has put the finishing touches on my rebuilt raceway so all that is left is to find a couple more drivers who want to race on a regular basis.  The first race night on the schedule is Saturday, Sept. 12th at 7:00PM.  We will be racing Carrera classic NASCARs and possibly one more class, carrera modern GT sports cars.

So far it is looking like Saturday nights will bring in the most racers. Last night around 10:30 Garold and a friend I met at his track, Kurt, came by for some late night goofing off. Maybe I'll start a night owl racing group. Kurt took only about 15 minutes to get the rhythm of the track burned into his trigger finger memory and from that point on it was a three way free for all until about midnight when Garold got a call to go pick up his daughter. The lap counter was on and every time one of us set fastest lap there was a scramble by the other two to better the mark. Last night we were driving three of my Scaley modern GT cars which I had tuned on earlier in the day and they were within a tenth of a second of each other when I tested them. The trackmate system worked without any glitches. The next time we get together I will conduct a practice race to make sure I have things like time between heats, track calls and computer printouts sorted out properly. I think putting the track power, computer and lap timer on my laundry room circuit will prevent any power problems. My race room AC has popped a circuit breaker on occasion when it cycles on at the same time as my refrigerator but the laundry room is on a breaker by itself and since I don't have a significant other who might want to do a load of laundry during a race there should be no problem.

Things are starting to look promising.
