It was a full day of racing...three races and (S)lots of fun for all in attendance. Every-other-month, Steve Adkins brings a group to join with the regulars. July was his opportunity to pay us a visit, bring his young'uns, Hannah and Timothy, with him. It was easy to see they had just as good a time as the old folks...I mean, the regulars.
First up was our Can-Am race. Richard Sylvester and David Erickson (and Karen, his faithful pit crew) were too much for Dan Parker and me. After last month's strong outing by my newly-designed tuning fork chassis, I had a few miscues, was forced to waste too much race time in the pits on repairs. As a result, I was left in the dust. Cough cough. Frankly, it was a little embarrassing.
Richard Sylvester - 287
David Erickson - 285
Dan Parker - 278
The Beas - a mere 247
Next up, we held our Run-What-Ya-Brung 5.5-second breakout class to give Steve Adkins a chance to strut his stuff and tutor the kids. It was a fun race to watch and provided Steve a good chance to get some lap time on the Grandstand before the final race.
Steve Adkins - 131
Timothy - 78
Hannah - 67
Last race of the day was the always-fast flexi GTP using Hawk motors. "Quick" doesn't even begin to describe the action during these races. Once again, Richard proved to be too much, with Dan closely behind. In fact, the cars were very closely matched, and there were times we spent neck-and-neck for lap after lap. Now THAT's racing!
Richard Sylvester - 328
Dan Parker - 327
The Beas - 321
David Erickson - 298
Steve Adkins - 243
Thanks again to Don Berni for letting us use (abuse?) his wonderful racing facilities for our monthly gathering, and to Jerry Richey for directing the race. It's always a pleasure to spend a day racing at Slots of Fun in beautiful downtown Abbeville, SC.
If you missed it...well...you missed it. Come join us next month. We race the first Saturday of the month, with first race tech around 10 a.m.
