Even if it does not look like a racer, the Volvo PV 444/544 models were popular as race and rally cars in the late 50's and early 60's.
This 1:24 slot car is modelled on the 544 driven by Danish Volvo salesman Jens Nielsen from Silkeborg, Denmark.

Very nice Niels - our family had 2 Volvos many years ago, and a 122 was one of the first cars I ever drove... I don't think many of these 544 models ever made it to the States.

Was sitting in a 544 in 70's when the pilot was training for rally. Crazy speed with that underpowered tank...

These cars raced with Saabs and Cortinas at Riverside raceway making for some very interesting racing. Some locals put small block fords into a few on the street.
