Friday evening at the 2015 Summer Western Classic drew a pretty good turnout with 21 RetroPro entries.
We got qualifying rolling about 6:30 and when the dust settled we saw Ben Cervantes Jr on top with a blistering fast 3.156. Alex Freund and Sam Rackham were also members of the sub 3.2 second club.
The C main was an 11 man round robin with Tim Neja and Dennis Samson capturing the two available move-up spots.
On to the B main, running this race with a little different format as four racers move-up from the B to seed the A main. James Grinstead showed us the way winning the B, John Tore Anderson in 2nd, John Hegedes 3rd and Dennis Samson securing the 4th and final move-up spot.
The A main was extremely close for the first few heats. Duran Trujillo, James Grinstead and John Tore Anderson were the class of the field. However, James experienced some problems at lap 17 and that killed his bid for this year’s SWC. About heat 4 Duran turned on the afterburners and pulled out a several lap lead. With John Anderson in chase he couldn’t quite keep up as Duran was having an amazing run. John Hegedes had some problems with a torn body but still was able to pull off a podium position.
Now I’d like to take a little time to thank everyone that made the race, including the generous folks that donated some great race prizes. Dan Debella from ProSlot sent us three complete X12 motors for the top three finishers and Jim Lange for his donation of a Hi-Tech chassis of the racers choice. I’d also like to thank all the volunteer turn marshals (well done) and finally, to Mill Conroy for directing the entire program. Without these people it would not have been as successful as it was!
Mark Mac Vittie was a late entry and I didn't get a shot of his Hi-Tech loaner.
