Upstate Speedway lost a roof during storms last night. I'm on my way in. Pictures are disturbing so far.

Hoping damage is limited to one track.

Sorry to hear about the damage, Michael. I hope the loss inside is minimized. Will hope to hear more from you when you have things under control.

Sounds like drag track has survived without damage. It was in a different part of the building.

Get some industrial fans blowing on the oval and a large dehumidifier. If you are quick you might save it.

I wish we could save the tri-oval but the track was filled to overflowing.

Doesn't look bad to the eye but you can feel the surface is uneven.

Ceiling over the Hillclimb is unstable. Gonna fight to keep tarps on tonight. Roofers don't come till Tuesday.

Good news is that the drag track is completely unaffected. So it will stay operational.

Sorry to hear this, Michael.

I get the sense that you have been putting a lot of effort into the raceway, you are asked to do more now.

You'll pull through... God bless.

BTW: That's two ovals ruined by water damage this year that I know of.

A few of you have been very gracious and concerned and I'm grateful. I appreciate the slot car community and our aspirations for seeing tracks survive and grow.

Here's an update.

Owner of our building carries no insurance. That means no liability coverage.
The condition of the ceiling has only gotten worse with the continued rain because there's not so much as a tarp over the exposed area.

I purchased a large tarp from Walmart that covers all of my Hillclimb. I strongly urge everyone to go out and buy one for every track. My tracks were dry as a bone and safe until the ceiling blew off. I'll never have a track without a cover for each one again. It was $70 at Walmart.

I'm looking at a new building today. Good news is that it's an excellent building and great location. Couldn't hope for anything better.

Bad news is that it's twice the rent.

So I'm factoring a daily loss if revenue during the early days of the new season, a loss of momentum, loss of a popular track, and the change of venue disruptions as being a major setback.

But it appears there is a little interest in racing R/C if I convert the ruined track. I'm also buying a King and smaller oval.

So it's a "go big or go home" moment.

I was recently reminded that if nothing's asked then nothing is gained and as a caveat "The Lord works in mysterious ways."

So if you happen to be either wealthy or just really benevolent and want to help, I'll will be happy to accept any funds toward rescuing no my tracks and moving them to a new facility

And it's much appreciated.

I'm just slightly confused.

Is your existing building condemned or is it just an issue that your landlord can't or won't repair the roof?

Michael,

Why don't you set up one of those "GoFundMe" pages or provide a PayPal ID so we can send a few bucks along?

It will most likely be unusable for a long time.
The lack of insurance and the extreme odor makes it hard to even remain in the room.

I have a good report today.
I have one donation of $20 to the Go Fund Me campaign. Amount isn't as important as the gesture and prayers. So that's an encouragement.
A group of racers that have become friends all came together yesterday and almost finished moving the Hillclimb to our new location. That track may be running by the weekend. The drag track will almost certainly be up in a day.
My only issues now are really just fiscal. Summer didn't leave me in a strong position to do a complete move and upgrade with higher rent due immediately.
I have to believe the Lord is in this because everything else is going so well. So I'm pressing forward in faith.

As for the new location it's a win win on all counts. Better facility and better visibility.
So in the end, "All things work together for good" as it teaches in Romans 8.
Thanks for the support and well wishes.

I had checked into insurance with USAA. They said they were working on carrying insurance for small business and to check back. Didn't expect something to happen after the first year. I suppose no one does. So I planned to have insurance but didn't have any yet. Track overhead was still just keeping the lights on so the temptation was to wait for a better day.

And yes, there's a lesson learned in that.
