Before you log in to Slotblog, what ads do you see? This one caught my eye this evening, much better that the usual offerings, which mainly consist of Russian/Chinese/Thailand women wanting to date me, and small R/C drones.

That ad should read "five foods that kill testosterone and pictures that bring it back".  :D

Mike, I get pretty much the same before logging in. But my women are locals living just a couple miles from me, and stunningly gorgeous.

Some websites track the locations of others that you have visited. I've been getting a couple weeks of compressor ads after searching for information used in a conversation with Pablo. :)

My current hate is the ads that activate if your cursor even touches them, you don't even have to click on them. One of those that has appeared on here has been a Vidal Sassoon ad, but there have been others, too.

Gorgeous women nearby who want to date? Nooo, nothing that exciting.

I mostly get requests to send money to St. Jude (back in my hometown of Memphis) and something about improving my internet speed.

I guess I'm supposed to get a new ISP so I can make donations more quickly.

Nice to have a college kid living with me - "Dad, gimme your laptop. I'll install the Google app to block all ads."
YUUUUUUP!

What a company. This must be 2015. Google sells ads (duh) and collects handsomely from companies to promote their stuff - then they give all the kids that are the demographic target a tool to block the ads they got paid to run.

I know about how they use cookies and various other things to target specific groups, that's why I get ads for women who want to date me (I'm single. Do the math.). I saw the same ad later that evening when I logged out, but this time the wording was "Five Foods That Boost Testosterone". I wonder if they changed the foods?

I get Ron Paul's stuff, too.

I usually don't mind advertising, commerce makes the world go round. I even click on them sometimes, if something "really neat" pops up.

If I really like a site, I become a member, log in, and the ads go away.

We all need to believe in something. I believe I'll have another beer.

It varies depending on what you may have recently searched, did you know you can click on the little "X" in the upper corners and try and do something about those ones annoying you. Might be mostly an effort in futility but hey I take a shot at them anyway.

You do what ever floats your boat. I really don't care. Just pointing out that without those ads you may end up posting about other posts on some old and weird web site. The ads don't bother me in the least. Just part of the landscape here on the World Wide Interweb.

Since I have an advertising account I don't see ads before I log in. I think it's the same for the paid members of Slotblog… anyways, as far as advertising blocking software goes, I get the wanting to block ads. The more recent (within the last year) aggressive ads where they pop-up and play videos or the pages that appear that ask you if you *really* want to close the page or the systems where all the words in an article are links to ads (scroll across them and the screen lights up with all kinds of windows).

Somehow the advertising brain-trusts have "figured-out" that making themselves intrusive, obnoxious, troublesome, and just rude, that we'll be more willing to buy the products being advertised. The blocking software brings some control back to the user *BUT* it does damage to legit sites (like Slotblog) where they're not willing to subject the users to tricks before they can use a site... (pointed towards no one in particular)... Why not purchase a membership here and support Slotblog?

BTW. I am now being followed just about everywhere by Hillary Clinton. Today they want me to wish her a happy birthday and another ad has some kind of contest where the prize is dinner with her… the targeting data must be very screwed up…

I'm also seeing videos at the top of each page, which certainly get annoying because they somehow control the navigation of the page. If I try to scroll down to read comments, the videos sometime force the scroll back to the top of the page!

Perhaps it's worth mentioning that if forums like Slotblog don't generate a certain level of revenue, they go away.

That being said, ad-blockers have the potential to change significantly the way forums like this are monetized. Such changes are already occurring... see this LINK.

In the case of Slotblog, I'll take the "pay the owner" option every time. :)

When I clicked on "sign-in" today and started to type my username and password, the ads had me so bogged down my cursor wasn't where I thought it was. So I got this pop-up instead of logging in:

I'm convinced it was simply a pop-up ad scam. The phone number isn't really Microsoft support. If you look at the text, at one point "Microsoft" is in lower case.

My computer is working fine, I haven't lost any data, and a full (Microsoft Security Essentials) scan says I'm clean and protected.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

And there are the slot car industry advertisers... there should be more supporting this site and the other site. It's to everyone's benefit.
