Among our group and in other threads, there has been some discussion of GT1 and Group C cars and how competitive each might be (or is by racing experience). Our GT1 class runs Scholer Chassis, Hawk 7 or Falcon 7 power and includes GT1, Group C and as an outlier, the Ferrari Enzo (because it is cheap and has a similar wheelbase and track compared to other cars in the class). I thought it might be interesting to compare these cars in an objective fashion in terms of their physical specifications. I have also included some images.

Notes 1: The Porsche 962 front wheel well height is not sufficient to position full size front wheels at the outermost part of the bodywork. Wheels must be tucked under. This makes the effective front track less than 3.25 inches.

Note 2: Although the Toyota GT- One shows a height of 1.63, the roof slopes down quickly

Note 3: Best Lap Times were recorded at Electron Raceway during an actual event. Each body was mounted on its own chassis with its own motor, so relative times are dependent on these factors as well as driving ability. The comparisons are a useful guide, they are not at all perfect

Note 4: Porsche 962 fast lap was achieved with a Falcon 7 motor. Most competitors use Hawk 7 motors which tend to be about .1 second per lap faster.

Note 5: It appears that my Porsche 911 GT1 Evo rear wheel openings have be hogged out a bit to accommodate the full size ProTrack wheels. This would be unnecessary for our current GT1 class because we allow full size wheels to be cut down to 1 inch in diameter

Note 6: Jack's Nissan R390 shows a great deal of promise. It has run a 5.045 at STR. That time is .118 slower than the record at STR of 4.927

Are the Scholer chassis available from distributors?

 

OK, checked Prof. Motor. But they don't have anything that looks like that. What would you order that they have in stock now?

Some of us have used the I55 1360 LWB chassis. Great for GT1 (will not work for Can Am cars because the wheelbase is too long). All of us add front and side pans. We cut these from .062 brass. James' shows his version with full side pans. see my version http://slotblog.net/...class-overview/

I have been told that Scholer and Plafit will not be importing to the US anymore. Prof Motor is the only source for Scholer. He also carries a similar Plafit. I have been told that Plafit will not be importing to the US anymore so when inventory is gone that is it

I have the Tamiya car so I will get those for you but the Tamiya car is very hard to mount because of the way the side of the car flairs out. Unfortunately I don't think any of us have the Revell car. Bob carries another model that I cannot name but I will get it for you next time I see him. Below is an image of the off brand.

I have edited the original post to include spec for my Porsche GT1 Evo. This car is the Tamiya version and was originally mounted on a TSRF chassis with full size wheels. It appears that I had to hog the rear wheel openings a bit to accommodate these. If I chose to race the Evo in our GT1 class, hogging would be unnecessary because rear wheels can be cut to 1 inch in diameter.

I mentioned that the body was hard to mount due to the flaring on the side panels. Below are a few images to illustrate

A couple of observations - Custom brass side pans would be quite small, no room for front pan, looks like only Falcon/Hawk 7 type motors would work (not Deathstar or PS 16D). If you get one, please post a thread about the build.

Also, I looked at Gridscale racing that sell the chassis. $119 for an unassembled chassis is a bit pricey.

I modified the original post to include new fast lap for XJ220 of 4.885 achieved at Electron Raceway Triathlon held on 9/21/15. The XJ220 is within a whisker of the fast lap record of 4.868 held by James' XJR12. I have also included in image a note about Jack's Nissan R390 (also shown below)

Racing continues to improve the breed! At the Triathlon held at Electron Raceway on 10/8/15 a new record was set. James' Jaguar XJR12 set a new lap record of 4.787 seconds. In the same race, Rich's Jaguar improved on its best time turning a 4.802 seconds. Both drivers cut nearly .1 second from their best previous lap times. I have updated the table in the first post to reflect the recent events.
