September's D3 Hardbody races at Buena Park Raceway were the last tune up races leading to our 5th Annual D3 Hardbody Nats at BPR on Oct. 17-18 (Sat/Sun).

Despite several regular racers missing, we had a good turn out with two new hardbody records set and nearly breaking an all time mark as well.

Two races were held, the first race of the day was our "Mixed" race for any D3 hardbody racing class. A "lap differential" is used which provides a more level playing field regardless of what racing class car one races. A 13 car round robin saw Eddie Shorer drive Gonzo's (Hector Gonzalez) 2001 Z06 corvette to establish a new total lap record for the 3 C's (corvettes, cobras, cheetahs, vipers) class with 247 laps.

Gonzo himself almost became the first ever to run a sub 5 second lap. His fast lap on the black lane of 5.0002 just missed, but his Honda 2000 sports car (FPS - Foreign Production Sports class) will probably be the first ever to get under 5 seconds. The podium had Eddie Shorer 1st, Gonzo 2nd, Keith Tanaka 3rd ('52 Hudson Hornet)

Our second and final race of the day had 12 entries for the GTP - NASCAR race. Any D3 NASCAR class versus the fastest class, GTPs.

Gonzo this time set a new total lap record for the '57-'79 NASCAR class of 229 laps with his '67 Chevelle. Victor Dubrowsky also came close to a sub 5 second lap with his Batman Porsche 962. He had several laps at 5.05 seconds. The Lap Differential podium had Hector 1st, Victor Dubrowsky 2nd and Eddie Shorer 3rd.

Another podium combines the lap differential and "racer handicap". This podium had Tim herrera 1st, Gonzo 2nd and Craig Nelson 3rd.

Thanks to Debby and Jim Watterson for their support of D3 Hardbody racing at Buena Park Raceway.

Thanks to our race directors, Victor Dubrowsky, Keith Tanaka
