A question for all of the Retro racers out there... Have any of you seen the new drill hole balancing holes that are coming now on some of the new Retro Hawks?

Up until this time, I have only seen the grind balancing marks on Retro Hawks, but a few have shown up lately at Buena Park with drill holes, which might signal that a new factory or new procedure for balancing these is taking place...

Could anyone else comment if they have seen these new drill balancing marks?

Thanks,

William

I got one at REM Raceway this past weekend with drill balance marks. Track testing it today after work.

FWIW, I don't see any in the 100 bulk ones I got in for the Sano.

In the packaged ones I just got, I only spotted one.

I hadn't seen any before.

What suspicions are those?

Jerry gets in bulk ones for RTRs and for raceways for hand-outs so he and the raceways save time ripping them out of the package.

How the JK motors are shipped into the US is not a question that would necessarily get an answer. At times I've heard folks comment some motors are selected then sent to a particular buyer. With knowledge that motors are delivered to buyers out of the package - well, the cat's out of the bag so to speak. No longer a suspicion.

The majority of them come from China as you see them.

Sealed, in the package.

If you think Jerry would waste his time testing $12.95 retail motors just to ruin his reputation, you obviously don't know Jerry.

Have you heard of anyone selling motors for a premium price?

If they aren't sold for more $$$, why would anyone take the time to do it?

And if it was an issue, why would I bother to mention it in my post?

It didn't add anything to the, drill vs slash grinding question.

Not to mention the cost savings (profits to JK) in not packaging the motors on cards...

I have a few Hawk 7s with the drill holes on the stacks. They date back several months, maybe close to a year.

I have only purchased two of the RHs, so both have the scrape marks rather than holes.

I have them with drill holes, without drill holes, with grind marks, etc. Not a biggie.

I just hope that Charlie didn't get snookered into buying motors in the blister that were represented as being special.

:laugh2:  I'm too cheap to pay the surcharge...

Some of my RH are balanced, some not. Can't find any rhyme or reason to these things but they do like water and they don't like heat.

Mine seem to like 1 min. in water and at least 50 laps of heating and cooling on the track..

I just run mine in for 10 minutes and then hit the track with them.

I just looked at the Retro Hawks I have. I have one with drilled balancing, the others are all cut balanced. I don't know where I got the one with the drilled arm, but it is not one of the Sano engraved motors. Since it was in a hardbody car, I tend to think it was recently purchased.

Jk is basically Jerry and his wife. I guarantee he is not going through all the motors.

"As the Hawk turns..."

My best motors have come from the recent can side slash version and the non-balanced ones.

That being said I really have had good luck with all of them. Ones that are light on brakes I put in flexis, ones that are a little soft I put in Retro stockers as those typically are like chain saws and need a load to make power.

That system has not failed me yet.

I have never seen a drill balanced one. Mine are all slashed or nothing.

I do not have a drilled one.

The older ones I have the slash goes across the motor shaft and the hewer ones it goes in the direction of the shaft.
