Alright next stop on the road is Modelville Hobby were stock cars will run on the figure 8 and Can Am's on the Aristocrat.  This will be first race with stock cars and I know the Modelville crew is busy building.  There is a Red Roof in and a Motel 6 about 15 minutes away off of Route 126.  For those of you who like to enjoy a cool drink check out the Ashland Ale House located just around the corner from the Raceway.

Figure 8.jpg

Track length 90 feet with braid depth of .020-.025 (I think be braid depth is right).  The coupes and Can Am's run around 3.0-3.2 per lap so plan on setting a target of 3.4-3.5.  If I have a chance to get some testing done in the next week or two I will update everyone with a target.  Things happen quick and the split drivers panel can be challenging if you have not raced on this track.  From the picture above Red-Orange are on the right side on the short straight with Blue-Black on the left side on the main straight.

Suggest set up:

  • Weight 130-135 grams
  • Body - Parma Cyclone has been very popular in Retro East as well as the O/S charger.  Remember to review the body cut lines in the IRRA rules.
  • Tires - JK untreated, JK treated, and Kelly Retro's
  • Motor - JK retro hawk.  9/28 or 9/29 will likely be the fast way around but 8/26 will make the car more driveable so pick your poison!

Aristocrat.jpg

Track length is 135 feet with a braid depth of .005-.010.  Lap times and heat totals vary on this track due to the configuration.  In general Red through Green you will want to target around 4.6-4.7.  Blue and yellow target will be around 4.3.  Black and Purple 4.1-4.2.

Suggest set up:

  • Weight 110-115 grams
  • Body - Parma NN Ti22 long or short or the O/S.  Parma Lola T-163 I found to work good up through the donut.
  • Tires - JK treated or untreated and Kelly Retro's have worked well along with Alpha Piranha's
  • Motor - JK retro hawk.  8/26 will keep the car smooth but 9/28 is the fast way around.

A motor is only as fast as the chassis it's in.

Race results from the first stockcar race at Modelville have been posted by David Panich and some video courtesy of Justin Ewell.  9/29 or 8/26 was the gear of choice.  My suggestion is try different motors and see which gearing works best for that motor.  Car weights were anywhere from 130 to 145 grams with John Weaver weighing in at 135 grams.  The two cars I had 139 seemed to work best for me.   The VFC Charger from Fast Tracks was very stable and of course most everyone ran the Parma Cyclone.  Times were mainly mid 3.5's to low 3.6's.  The exception to this was of course John Weaver running in the 3.4's on almost every lane.  JK untreated were the tire of choice tonight.

The first NERR stockcar race is just over two weeks away, get your testing on!

I'm surprised the gearing is so high.  Most places Retro East runs gearing is 8/28, even at Port Jeff

John,

This may be a result of the track power being set to a lower voltage (11.5 V).

Correct Bob, the power is lower though I can't remember the specific setting but 11.5 sounds about right. Besides with lap times running in the 3.5's I think these beasts are fast enough LOL.

O.k. boys less than one week to go. Who's ready and who's still building? Chloe might not be racing so I may have an extra stockcar if someone wants to race. I will know for sure later this week.

Less than 24 hours until we start to rumble.
