Dave's family had asked me to, and I agreed to say a few words at the memorial service.

Dave's sister texted me earlier and wanted me to convey that everyone is encouraged to speak, and of course, will be appreciated.

Dearly wish I could attend, but it is simply not possible after coming to the Sano.

I'll be there in thought and spirit, though...

I would say there was approximately 125 people.

Between the speakers, and my wife and myself, having to get back for two different birthday parties, I was only able to get the below picture.

There had to be at least 30 people from the slot racing community, so hopefully someone took more pics.

Some great ones were there with Dave with late '60s and early '70s big hair.

At the Memorial there was an amazing painting by Steve Koepp done for Dave. It shows Dave walking away, with box and controller.

At Buena Park Raceway this morning, Dennis Samson led the SCRRA Retro racers in a moment of silence in remembrance of Sano Dave who was good friends with many of the BPR regulars.

Rest in peace, our friend... you will be missed.

Thanks for posting the pic of the painting, Howie. There were a lot of great memories shared during the memorial service and I especially enjoyed hearing the stories that you shared of how you met Dave and some of your adventures together.

FYI at least four different states had racers attend. Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan... and maybe Florida if Forrest and Jerry (JK) have changed their voters registrations yet.

Thanks everyone for the nice coments on the painting. I sent that to Dave 30 days ago. A friend was there when he opened it and called me to say Dave liked it and it got some comfort from it.

Would have liked to been at his memorial to hear all his friends speek. You slot racers are good lot.Thank you Howie for posting a pic of painting. Thanks to all of Dave's friends that returned his love. God bless you all.

Seeing the body that I painted for and gave to Sano Dave at the race on the Purple Mile being displayed brought a tear to my eye. Made me feel at least a part of me was at the service.

The most poignant image I've ever seen in slot racing.

Thank you, Steve Koepp.

I can't imagine that anybody involved in slot racing and/or knew Dave even a little bit was not moved a bunch by the painting.

Can I be forgiven if I dream, for just a moment, that the silhouette is Dave walking IN the door to the slot racing shop? I will prefer to remember him THAT way!

Thanks, Steve, for an image I will never forget (and could be interpreted either way). We will all miss you, Dave!
