Hi, I'm trying to locate a couple of cars in 1/43 scale, and I'm hoping that someone here can tell me if any manufacturer made any of these cars in 1/43 scale as slot cars.

Ford GT40
Ferrari 250LM
Mach I Ford Mustang
'65 Pontiac GTO
XKE Jaguar

TIA
:)

Steve,

Depends on how you define 1/43.... The French company made both the GT40 and the Type E, but the scale is variously given as 1/40 or 1/36. For what it's worth the Jag measures: a little over 100mm long, 58mm wheelbase, overall width 38mm, and track 28mm.

I think Imai has the Ferrari 250 LM and that would be 1/43. I can try to do pictures if you're interested...

As far as vintage, I think that there are very few true 1/43 scale slot cars. I can think of the Tootsietoy Corvair set, and the Penn Line Watsons are actually closer to 1/43 than smaller than that.

Thanks chaps.

I'm not after vintage in particular, I'm after anything that is available in true 1/43 scale.

I realise that I could use diecasts or maybe plastic kits if available, but I prefer slot cars.

Photo's would be good Don, thanks.

Here you go Steve, the Jouef Type-E and what I think are the Imai Type E (white, slightly larger than the Jouef) and the Ferrari 250LM??.

Cool, thanks Don.

Now, I'm on the lookout for Imai EXE & 250LM.
:unsure:

Anyone know of any of the others?

I'll keep an eye out for you Steve - there were a fair number of the Ferraris on sale here at antique toy shows a couple years ago, and maybe a few are still hanging around! Do these look like 1/43 to you? I'm not really that familiar with the scale, but they're definitely between the 1/32 and the 1/52 like Wrenn or Penn Line...

Hi Don,
That would be great, but it's hard to say if they are to scale by the pics.
1:1 wheelbases are;
XKE = 96" or 2438mm, so @ 1:43, it should be 56.7mm
250LM = 94.9" or 2410mm, so @ 1:43, it should be 56.0mm

If they are within 1 or 2mm, they would be close enough.

Steve,

The Imai Jag and Ferrari wheelbases are 60mm, and the Jouef Jag about 55mm.

That's the tale of the tape...

Well then, looks like I'm after a Jouef Jag. :unsure:

Thanks for checking them out.

They're actually fairly common Steve, but also one of the "must haves" of any Jouef collection here, so rather desirable, and never a bargain. The ordinary ones probably start at about 70 and I recently saw some rare color combos exceeding 400!
