Gentlemen, Ladies, disciples of the Kingdom of Thingies....

With renewed vigor and energy, I propose to showcase some of my beloved thingie slot cars here and welcome anyone else to do the same and get some activity going here at SLOTBLOG!

I plan but do not build any of these to be shown soon, as I try to work with the true geniuses of the art of building slot cars like Jairus Watson and Paul Wolcott and as well as motor Master Havlicek! So without further to do...

First up, an unseen work of art that combined my planning with the incredible meticulous chassis built by craftsman Pablo or as we all know as Paul Wolcott. The body painted by Master arteest Jairus Watson. I present here the first of others to come in the Thingie Can Am types...the Detroit Diablo!

IMG_2478-vi.jpg

The body is the PINNER GT made and reproduced by Body Grand Master Gene's World or Eldon Adams

More photos to come of this beauty and work of art.

More different Thingies to come here as well. Join in...!

Lord have mercy.  I'd be afraid to run such a beautiful body as that in anger.  The tri-color livery is deadly cool, as is the actual artwork.

Will have to search out some Thingie bodies for some builds of my own :good:

Next up is the pseudo Can Am racer from legendary body producer Lancer and Master mold maker Lloyd Asbury, the DRIFTER! This magnificent reproduction body was made by Victor Ferguson of Truescale!

Chassis is built by Master Jairus Watson and also the magnificent paintwork! The chassis build is featured on the Jarius Toys In the Attic thread found elsewhere on this forum.

Paul.

I use Tamiya Ball Bearing Aluminum O-Ring Wheels on my thingies. They were made for their line of 4WD cars that run on small tracks.

I can provide additional information if you need.

Bill,

I am hoping that Pablo will post additional chassis photos since he labored on this superb chassis!

Still hoping that others will post some of their own Thingies for all to see here!

Next up is a wonderful thingie originally produced by Lancer and reproduced brilliantly by Truescale, the WHISPER!

This body is wider than usual but is awesome nevertheless. The chassis and paint were from Jairus Watson. I have in years past approached other Masters to build some of my project cars and only Jairus, Pablo and Steve Okeefe have agreed. There are others that may be asked one day...

Sorry David, didn't know you were allowing ALL to post their cars on your thread.
Very happy to oblige. :)

Here is one that I happen to love being it's the first of many Detroit Sliders built.
P1010003-vi.jpg

This one is unique in that I glued and trued up both black and orange rubber to have  a unique striped tire going on out back.
P1010007-vi.jpg

Really wish I had the time to build another one of these.

Here is the chassis sans body.

Okay...it is deader-than-a-door nail here! You could hear a body mounting pin drop!!!

Alright, the last one for a while as this is getting futile I believe.

Behold, thought to be the MOST dangerous slot car in the World...the EXECUTIONER!

Built entirely by Jairus Watson the Master of many skills. The body is another Lancer creation called the SPOILER and faithfully reproduced by Truescale.

btw...this slot car is NOT deadly at all.

David, I think we lost a lot of old friends to "Facebook". The old crowd is just plain gone with the wind.
endbelldrive still pops up every now and then.

lowrider is still active with proxy racing on Facebook.

PdL isn't very active here, but still pops up when we really need him :)

etc.

I look back on Slotblog and Slotforum posts circa 2006-ish and see a lot of guys were really enthused.

Does anybody else sense that, or is it just me ?

Me, I'm still here and as addicted to building as ever. I just finished a pair of thingies in my "Pablo's Build's".

The Go-Kart didn't seem to really turn on many people, but I think the owner will be "tickled pink" :laugh2:

Here's one I did for Tom Scott a loooonnnngggg time ago.
P1010854-vi.jpg

P1010853-vi.jpg

P1010852-vi.jpg

Tom was a little luke warm about the concept but the body was so scratched and beat up that my only option was to put most of the paint on the outside. Thus the large eyeball.

Pablo,

I already have that Jupiter body waiting as well as others.

I haven't decided to plan and build anything new for a while. I do have about a half dozen projects already planned, just haven't made a decision on them yet...

Do I really want them or not (yes I do!).

Issue #4 is hard body stuff but... I would love to do a couple pieces on Thingies and have you do another write up about our free form babies.

The very definition of "Thingie" back then means that anything goes and no rules.
These days however, we have to have a few rules or every racer in a Thingie proxy would look like a wing car. (Which is the culmination of the Thingie timeline.)

The Ragman was built by Jairus Watson from a body produced by Gene's World, otherwise known as ZR1 and also Eldon Adams, a great gentleman.

It is called "X-1".

While some Thingies I have constructed end up sitting on someone's shelf looking very pretty, this is one that was actually raced quite successfully back in 2011 in the "Dynamic Challenge" Proxy race.  Don't really remember what place it came in overall out of 26 entries held on 10 different tracks all around the planet. But, the one thing I do know is it dogged another Choti bodied entry built and entered by a New Zealander by the name of Steve Kempson.  Even managed to out-pace his car once on a German track at Minerva Raceway.  Ended up on the podium a few times and drives very smoothly.

But overall it was a good design limited only by my penchant for wanting to stay all vintage during construction and parts sourcing.

IMG_3112proof-vi.jpg

Today I took it apart cleaned, glued and trued up new rubber and flipped the pick-up brushes over.  New lead wires were necessary as was taping up the broken body. But now she is again ready to go back on the track and beat that Wavemaker cheater car once and for all!

The body is a Choti re-cast by O2R and the chassis a "Detroit slider".  Motor a Dynamic 26D rewound and rebuilt by John Havlicek.  Gear Cox, wheels U-Go and rubber now reshod with Natural by JK.
You see.... Steve Kempson a.k.a. Lowrider here on this forum has decided to run a fun proxy race just for past proxy entrants.
So... "Wavemaker" and "Repelatron Dyna-Slider" get one more chance to face off.  And this time I hope it runs as well as I know it can.

Okay now, the final batch of previously owned thingies! The formula type.

Here's a wild one.
I called it Hydro-Kompressor and built it just for fun.

P1010064-vi.jpg

Paint was inspired by Star Wars Ep I pod racing.  But people see other things in the design.

Chassis underneath the weird paint is just about as unusual...
P1010060-vi.jpg
The car was sold via eBay to someone in China.  No kidding!
John Havlicek built the motors timing one of them for CW and the other CCW.  Never put it on the track but always wanted to try.

Now that is just totally wild :D

Can certainly see the pod racer theme.. As for the chassis and the double motor setup !!! Neat wire routing/treatment too

Shame you never got it on the track yourself, would be very interesting to see how it handled & the speed .

One of my all-time favorite thingies is this baby! Those are ball bearing front wheels too!

I still can't seem to find more photos of this and several others recently shown...[?] There is a long and interesting story to this thingie yet to be told.

The PUNISHER!

Oh but of course I found more!

Built and crafted by Jairus over at Watson Wonder Werks! Of course he masterfully painted this body in the correct motif! Yet but details to come...

The body is an original thingie creation of HOWMET over in the UK! It is called the Black Flag. When I first saw this body I knew I had to get one and Howmet was graciously provided this for my dream project.

Once this labor of love masterpiece PUNISHER was finally finished, it was LOST in the US Mail for a while! I thought that we would never see it again even though I had never lost a piece of mail yet in my life. It finally did arrive after much work by myself and Jairus.

Keep going with this thread David, lots of amazing cars on here!

Here's one from I think the first Thingie Proxy, back in ... 2006? A long time ago in any case... Chassis found on ebay, refurbished, and a Shinoda repro body, to create the ... "Zot"! It's now in the hands of Edo...

A couple Floyd "Thingie Man" Manley tribute cars, also now chez Edo...

The Super-LIght, Super-Fast Thingie, with a period Honda body as found and piano wire chassis, Classic fronts, U-go rears...

Hmm, can't seem to find photos of The Gettin' Thingie, but if Edo ever wakes up, he can post them...

The "Flatiron", made in Sweden, and maybe the most amazing Thingie ever, especially since it dates from 1967 or 68...

swedishthingie.jpg

The Super Light again, surrounded by a couple of Gene's creations:

3thingiesforChicago.jpg

Two carved wooden Thingies, from a lot found by Phil Smith, who put chassis under them (simple Dynamic type)

BalsaThingies.jpg

Two of the more amazing Thingies I've seen, belonging to a fellow collector here in Paris. Made in Italy I believe, and incomplete, but...
