Giggles in Can-Am!
Six locals and Mark from Grants Pass came to race True Scale GT1 and Can-Am at STR on 11/23/15. Track conditions were quite good; several sub- five second laps were run and a near record was achieved in Can-Am.
As always it was a fun and competitive race at STR. Highlights are described below.
- Bob edged out Jack by a car length for the top spot in GT1. James edged out Rich for the bottom step of the podium
- Jack outdistanced the field by nearly three laps in Can-Am. James and Bob battle for third. In the end James edges out Bob for the bottom step of the podium
GT1 Redux
Just last Thursday, 11/19/15 the usual suspects came to race True Scale GT1 as part of the Triathlon at Electron Raceway. By coincidence, the rotation at STR called for GT1 (as well as OSCAR/PP spec Can-Am) this Monday, 11/23/15.
The GT1s were well prepared for the Electron Raceway contest. Each and every racer selected the same ride for the race at STR. The top five racers including, Bob, Jack, James, Rich and Ron all turned fast laps in the high 4.9 to low 5.0 second range.
With such a group of experienced racers and very equally matched cars, consistency and a bit of luck determine which drivers stand on the podium. Bob is always tough to beat on his home track. His black/yellow Enzo turned second fastest lap of the evening with a 4.990 and ran a consistent race (94.40%) finishing with 90.8 laps. However, Jack was always nipping at Bobs heals. Although Jacks blue Enzo was not as quick (fast lap of 5.059) as Bobs Enzo, I never saw Jacks car leave the slot. Jacks consistency was an excellent 95.70%. In the end, Bob edged out Jack by a car length.
The battle for the bottom step of the podium was between James, Rich and Ron. Richs 962 turned fast lap of the evening at 4.971 but the hump was problematic for the beast. Entering the final heat James was about a half lap ahead of Rich. I believe that Ron had already completed his rotation finishing with 87.8 laps. About half way through the heat, James wrecked under the bridge. By the time the car was re-slotted, Rich had gone by. It looked like Rich was going to maintain the lead until an unfortunate off turned things around again. In the end, James finished two sections ahead of Rich. Rons great looking silver Enzo was only a few sections behind Rich.

Can-Am
Can-Am is one of our fastest classes. The low-slug, scratch built rides powered by Deathstar or ProSlot sealed 16D motors handle like a dream. The driving experience is much different than GT1s which are faster down the straights, have less braking action because they are powered by Falcon 7 or Hawk 7 motors and dont handle quite as well in the corners because of larger diameter wheels.
Three of the top four finishers broke the magic five second barrier, the fourth, Rich, managed a 5.056 second fast lap. Jacks consistency (95.19%) coupled with a very fast car won the day. Jack finished with 92.5 laps only a section behind the record for this class besting the rest of the field by nearly three laps. James and Bob battled it out for second place. In the end, James edged out Bob by three sections. Richs Lotus was a competitive ride but some unfortunate offs kept him out of the running for a podium finish.
