Sad news, but we are all getting older, even though we don't feel it - and don't like to admit it - and some of us are catching some disturbing s****y illness on the road to old age. So we must accept that we dont life forever.  :-(

Therefore it's important that we enjoy every day and treat each other with kindness and respect. :-)

RIP, Duff.

And to all of you "survivors" - enjoy your days, build some cars, race them and have a ball to the end.  :-)

Yours,

My sincere condolences to Robin and his family.

He was indeed a unique and wonderful individual. The slot car world and the world in general are a little duller with his passing.

Wow.

Duffy and I had many interesting conversations over the years. The last time we talked, he was starting to build guitars, after another of his passions, music, lured him away from our hobby. He told me every seven years a person's genes change, and when they do, so does their areas of interest. I think he was onto something.

Here's a pic he sent me. This was the early/mid-'70s. He was playing harp for the Chip Larison "Catfight" Blues Band. Duffy is on the far right:

It took a while to set in when Tony told me the news earlier.

Duffy was always thinking and I do not believe any thought or idea was truly ever finished. To me Duffy was a pure genius on a multitude of levels!

I had written a few more paragraphs, but erased them as the prior statement is Duffy to me. He was a great friend to me via Slotblog and then later as a builder and finally as a person that would call just to see what was new.

Thank you, Duffy, for everything. You will never be forgotten and your name will prestigiously remain within Retro!

Rest in peace without frustration and pain my friend!

I remember I saw Duffy at the RetroPalooza, Port Jefferson, or maybe at the Fall Brawl, SpeedZone, my first or second experience of Retro East racing in 2012.
I was impressed by the design of his Can-Am chassis.
I regret I did not have a chance to talk with him then.
His craftsmanship was so great that I bought a set of his jig wheels for myself and spring steel guide-tongues for Kamo-san.
Since we are racing toy cars, we are not to be killed during racing.
We are racing "Retro," however, so most of us are "retro" in age, losing racing buddies every year.
May comradery prevail in the world of Retro racing.

RIP, Duffy.

My God... I was not on the forum yesterday... just now logged on... and saw this. I am stunned beyond belief.and I still don't want to believe what I read. I just talked to Duffy about five days ago, and he was good at that time.

Duffy was one of the primary guys who helped me with getting my Retro builds right. He had that witty sense of humor, but when he said something I listened intently. His way of looking at something as a machinist gave me a better perspective on chassis workings. We talked about guitars, playing, and music, too... and a lot of other things.

Though I never met the man in person, the messages and phone calls we had, I will always remember. My heartfelt condolences go out to Robin, I know she is devastated, and I pray she has the strength to make it through this. I pray for her and their children. God grant them strength.

RIP, Michael. Peace be upon your soul. You were always a gentleman, and ready to talk to anyone and help them out and I appreciate that more than you will know now. I will miss your projects and your help. I am just upset right now... I didn't expect this, and these words are hard to write. I will see you my friend, and we can continue our discussions.

I'm shocked.

This is unbelievable. He is a genuinely great guy. Duffy is an incredibly talented craftsman, wonderfully creative individual, and a sophisticated thinker. What a wonderful sense of humor he had. He will be sorely missed.

His posts would always add something new to the conversation. Never just a mudslinger, he always looked to move the conversation forward. He always sought the high road. He was usually right on with his insightful comments. I was sorry to see the number of his posts decline in recent years. His personal communications with me were always erudite and real.

May his approach to engaging others be emblazed in our minds as an example of how we should conduct our own lives. Long live his memory.

Very sad to get on here this morning and find out Duffy has passed... He was such a nice guy and very interesting to talk to. Great and unique sense of humor. The chassis parts he made were fantastic, he was quite the craftsman. He will be greatly missed...

RIP, Duffy.
