My God...
RIP, Michael. Peace be upon your soul. You were always a gentleman, and ready to talk to anyone and help them out and I appreciate that more than you will know now. I will miss your projects and your help. I am just upset right now... I didn't expect this, and these words are hard to write. I will see you my friend, and we can continue our discussions.

Well said. I, too, learned much from our conversations online and the phone. I had hoped to meet face to face on my next trip to NJ/NY as I get more into racing.

We just went through this with two family members. Condolences to Robin.

Sad to hear, for sure! I never met him personally, but did have the opportunity to speak with him on the phone once. He was always fair with our dealings on the BST forum, often tossing in a gift or two with my purchases!!

Godspeed, Duffy, hope to see you again at the big podium in the sky!!

I am floored by this... had no idea.

Terribly sad news.

We have lost a craftsman, a wonderful conversationalist and writer, as well as a true gentleman.

RIP, Duffy. You will be missed.

When I saw Joe's post in the new topics last night, I didn't want to read it because it was such a shock. During the evening I ruminated about slot car friends recently lost. There were friends that I knew well... Gus, Alex, Yendor, and also friends that I had never met... John, Dave, Ray, and now Duffy. They are lost for now... but not lost forever. In time, they will be met or re-met.

Godspeed to all of them...

A sad aspect of our hobby is that many of us are advancing in age as Joe mentioned. It is an inescapable fact that a number of us will be struck down in the years ahead.

Duffy, through his posts on this thing we call the Internet had an immense impact on our hobby as displayed through our collective loss at his passing. We are, all of us interconnected by our love for the hobby but even more so by our love for the charaters that inhabit it... Duffy was one such character.

I just saw this... OMG... I will certainly remember the many conversations we had about everything and anything. I first called him when he posted he used to frequent the House of Pancakes in Anaheim, CA, a restaurant close to where I grew up.

RIP, my friend... you will be missed.

Hi,

My respectful condolences to Michael's family and friends.

Never met Duffy in person but always avidly read his posts. In the last year he spent more time on Scale Racing Lobby, a blog based on building scale 1/25 race car static models. His preferred category was "Drag, L.S.R."

His posts on the site are a great testament to his skill, humor, knowledge, and creativity. Here's links to his builds threads at the SRL forum:

Sad news. He had just joked in an email the other day that his building jig (that I was outbid on by Dennis Samson) might now end up in the Slot Car Museum.

As can be seen by all his posts, and those in this thread, he was quite a guy.

Condolences to his family.

I have been away for a few days. Very shocking indeed. He was a genius in many ways. Most of my Jail Door chassis have been built with Duffy brackets. I still have a few. He even made the drop arms and pre-bent them for me. One of a kind for sure.

My condolences to the family.

RIP, Michael.

One of the things I know Duffy cherished was winning the Jose Rodriguez Concours Award in our Winter Series 2012-13. As much as he loved to build chassis and come up with new ideas, he did some serious work and it was well deserved. I remember having many conversations with him about techniques, equipment, etc.

He was truly a character among characters.

As well as the creator of truly well-engineered chassis kits that had all the tricky wire bending done accurately to make them idiot-proof and included all of the little fiddly bits.

A great loss to the hobby as well as its participants.

Duf, you will be missed!

RIP.

Matt,

I find your tribute very appropriate, and interesting for the fact that anyone looking at those "scraps" of brass, even a slot car racer who wasn't into Retro wouldn't realize the care and thought that went into each piece. That any person be he a brain surgeon or slot car racer can advance his craft to the benefit of others, is Duff's fitting legacy.
