Looks like NA$CAR restrictor plate racing! Same challenges, same inevitable lurking disaster.

Smokie,

How many races you guys get out of the 4002FKs with Wings?

While we're at it, how many in Retro?

I have one with six races on it with some practice time also and still running strong with a $100 wing car.

In Retro Can-Am, I lost two this week. One threw a wire at the tab, the other motor lack of end play in the arm melted the endbell, so the bushing spun... (tried tapping for clearance to no effect), end bell bushing was not completely glued in all the way.

Some people are still not using the alignment tool so burning them up has happened (duh).

People, don't expect this motor to be taken off the wall and raced, not at 14.4 volts. This is a14.4 volt track power, no dropping to 13 or more like some places with eight cars on the track.

The wings are punched with harder tires and are much lighter... and he doesn't glue heavy.

Bill,

Thanks, but I was wondering what motor life is on Tracy's 14.4V.

Like I posted in another thread, 14.4V is too much for $13 and $14  motors.

14.2 is what we run at MMW, two 75 amp power supplies, four taps.

Mike Swiss, we have had no problems running Pro Slot 4002FK or Retro Hawks on 14.4 volts. We have had winners with both motors win in multiple weeks.

Do you ever have blown motors?

How many races do the ones that don't blow last?

Tracy,

How do you explain the above post of John Martin's? That doesn't sound like "no problems".

Everyone loves your facility and new Gerding track, but you're going at this "big" Retro race with a wing car mentality.

The wing car mentality is absolutely fine with wing cars, but this is Retro. Retro isn't about world records, big pay-outs, and let's see how many people can blow up so the survivors can pad their lap total with less traffic.

Retro is about no attrition, with the result, the closest racing you'll ever see for cars going this fast. And we haven't had to pay out a penny to get large turnouts.

Why do I think I can make this post, taking you to task?

Because without our permission, you casually grabbed our ruleset, because you figured out, one way or another, ours was the most professionally written, ours was the most easily accessible, and since ours is the most used, it must be the most respected. And then you also casually add an "except", so you could get three more entries.

So if you think you can undo what the IRRA® has worked so hard the last 8-1/3 years to create, and do so without criticism, you are sadly mistaken.

Hey, Mike Swiss, I did to the rules what you told me to do if I was going to use them. You told me to post that they were a modified version of the IRRA® rules

And where has that been posted here at Slotblog, Tracy?

All I see is this on your event poster:

It's clear from numerous posts here that the racers are not very clear on the exact rules you're using for the April Retro race...

We are employing a modified set of IRRA® rules. All rules are the same, the only addition is that we will allow the Pro Slot 4002FK along with the Retro Hawk motor.

What we are trying to do is draw more racers from several regions who use both motors. After weeks of testing we have found no difference in the Pro Slot 4002FK and the Retro Hawk. We race both each weekend at "The Track" and both have won consistently.

Was posted in the race announcements yesterday.

The point is this:

Your race is not using the IRRA® ruleset and thus your race poster in incorrect. Please change it.

Smokie,

I've always wondered why the F class runs such a tall gear set on that little motor. Is it just to maintain a top speed since you don't have to let off? Don't the motors get hot and slow down with that gearing? What size tire are you using?

I was just commenting how bad the FKs can be.

First one never got to the track, bound up out of the bag with bushing spinning... Second one threw a wire at starting line? Never done that before...

But a 4002FK I had does have the track record 3.617. And it won the race, so go figure it's still luck of the draw. Thanks, Chinese lady, for that... LOL.

Mike: I've been getting a couple of races from the 4002. I remove and "overhaul" the motor after the first race on it, and then after the second race pull it again and remove brush hoods and check the wear on the comm. New motor brushes back in and see how it does.

As for the "issues" with either motor, it's the old "crapshoot" or "lottery quick-pick" with what you get. I've had JKRH motors only last a race or two...Gil Gunderson had one last for 10 races before it died. I have (just like J.C.) had a few 4002's fail just like he's (JC) experienced. End bell spin and a thrown wire at the comm.

like most everyone says, it's just a cheap collection of mass produced Chinese motors. Maybe they should come with a disclaimer stating the"average" rpm is xxxxx- your results may vary

Fred....

We've tried a virtual cornucopia of gear ratios with the FK. Motor seems happiest with this ratio. Some have tried 14/38 or 13/35-36, but my experience has been best with the 14/39 combo. Competitive motors run pretty warm, but the slacker motors run hot and wind up back in the box.

I believe that JC has been running 8/26 (48p) with that motor in his CanAm car...

tires start around .765 for practice, and race around .760
