WoW!! That's an awesome car. Nicely done in all aspects especially the choice of color. Is this a fantasy build, or a copy of a 1:1.

Fantasy. Ron bought two. Here is the box. The Martini decals look good but I don't want two black 918s out there so here are some images I got off the internet. I have not yet decided how to paint mine. I do like the Gulf colors and I have some Gulf decals I purchased a long time ago.

This looks like a welcome addition for hardbody fans!
Ron told me the car can either be build as a Spyder or coupe. I will build as a coupe because our class specifies closed cars (although the Spyder would be faster - less weight and lower CG). I have decided to make it a Gulf car. I just ordered some pactra orange stipping tape so I won't have to wait for two different colors to dry.

Body by itself shown below
Here is the step by step process
Stock center section shown below
Center section is too wide to allow adequate side pans. Center section is 2.36 inches wide and is trimmed to 2 inches. Also filed bump ins for smooth mounting of side pans. Motor cooling hole is drilled
Axle hangers reamed out to fit 1/8 in. axles and mounted on the chassis. (front wheels are too small. I will mount larger ones later)
Body test fit

It still bugged me that the car seemed to be much slower down the straights and have way too much brakes compared to my 458. I took another look at the car after the race and noticed that the motor mount was bent a few degrees impacting the gear mesh and creating too much friction. I fixed the problem and lap times improved dramatically. I look forward to the next race which is tentatively scheduled for 11/9/16.
Below are images of the finished car
