Being recently retired I have had too much time on my hands with no raceways near me to do any Retro racing so I have resorted to building something different just for the fun of it to keep me busy! Just wanted to share some of my builds so i’ll be posting more of my cars here in the future.

The first one is a 1/32 1950 VW split-window I decided to build into a V-Rod. Still have some body details and a paint job to do. The chassis is done except for some tumbling when I get around to buying a tumbler. The body mounts have been incorporated into the drop arm mount and stinger pipe. The rims are Lotus with  two O-rings ground down up front and natural rubber on the rear.

To be continued…

I welcome any comments or questions.

I bought it long ago from Professor Motor. I believe it is a BWA bracket, although I have a few others that i bought there that look different. They are still selling similar brackets. http://www.professor...-p/pmtr1006.htm

Nice!!  You don't need a tumbler--just polish the chassis in the sink with SOS and water. It will look great. Then use metal polish for a jewelry look. Do not use Brillo!

Marty, the body was made by a company in the Czech Republic and i'm correcting myself it's a 1/35 scale not 1/32 (not that that matters much).

That is just a sweet looking Volks Rod :D

Definitely keep building & showing the results :good: Chassis, body and the use of the Lotus rims all work really well together.

Here are a couple of other projects i’m working on at the same time as the V-Rod. I bought this Kemtron in-line chassis and Revell RP77 motor on eBay last year because it looked like a fun project. I thought it would be a great chassis for this (unknown to me) old butyrate body i’ve had for many years and wasn’t quite sure if i’d ever get a chance do anything with it. Yet to be built is a "more modern” drop arm instead of the fixed guide holder it came with. It’s still in the mock up stage and I have yet to decide how to mount the body.

Anyone have an idea what body this is?

The other car was built with a thingie body in mind but I have yet to choose one from my collection to use. I believe the motor is a Revell SP something?

Made some progress on the V-Rod today. Painted the body and trying out some vinyl racing stripes.

The 13UO Pablo referred to is the slim Mabuchi can motor, rather than the body.

It is a Revell SP40.

That sounds about right to me Dennis.  Even such a mild wind would be a major upgrade for the stock motor.  Then the problem would be (of course)...trying to see if it would stay together.  The stock magnets are crazy-weak.  The end bell really was (*along with seeming weird back then) kind of a precursor to the later Mura arrangement using hoods (*upper and lowers!).  Mabuchi had no idea of how "close" they came.  ;)

My memory was (*for some strange reason) having a preference for the red ones...I guess Monogram.  Other Mabuchis, I was a K&B guy.  :D

We always used the red ones. One of our guys built an aluminum endbell for one that was slick. Adjustable timing and the whole shebang. I wish I still had that around.

Whoah...talk about spending $200 for a can of domestic beer!  I'd love to see that thing!  I have a JK aluminum end bell here, but installing it on a Mabuchi just seems so wrong!

PS...the red ones were the best!  :D
