The second major race of the 2016 SCRRA Retro racing schedule will be the Pete Zimmerman "Festival of Speed" coming up next month on Saturday, April 23 and Sunday, April 24.

Same schedule as last year, with Can-Am on Saturday and F1 and RetroPro on Sunday and all races will be on the BPR King track.

Tech inspection will begin for Can-Am and F1 at 10 AM on both days with RetroPro tech about two hours after the end of F1 on Sunday. RetroPro power will be switched on immediately after the finish of F1.

Remember, for Can-Am all cars must be brought to the tech table with the body off for motor and body inspection. Bodies must weigh a minimum of 5.5 grams. F1 will have a quick motor inspection also but the bodies can be left on.

And... being a major race the normal SCRRA body rules will be in effect so the recent practice of allowing certain bodies the addition of side dams and diaplanes will not be allowed.

See you there!  :good:

What are the current body rules for Can-Am? When I click the link for it on the rules page. It says no content.

To be more specific, are all of the O/S Ti22 bodies legal?

O/S 415, 415L; O/S 408 but not the 408L. BPR sells their own legal Ti22 L as well.

Will the normally scheduled flat track race earlier in the month be cancelled in favor of the King track?

I say keep the regular flat track race the second Saturday of April since there is a loyal following there.

My 2 cents...

Tim,

I agree. Since the Flat track races normally get over about 3 PM we run them and could also cram in a Can-Am race on the King track. Probably won't be a lot of people and we don't need to qualify, just run a couple races and let the laps and sections determine the positions or whatever format that would suit the situation. I see no reason we couldn't get in a King track race on the same day and finish no later than 7 or so...

We'd have to check with Buena Park first but what do you guys think?

I'd much rather play on the Flat track first, then If I feel the need I can test on the King after the races!! That would be my preference!! :)

Tim,

If we did this the Flat track races would certainly be first with their normal schedule and times. The King track race would follow. If the King track "warm-up" guys didn't want to run the FT races, they could test all day and then race the King track with the race beginning at about 4 PM.

Actually, the SCRRA will announce shortly that we will be changing the Parma Checkpoint Cup races from the second weekend in January to the fourth weekend.  For several reasons this change just seems to make good sense and now all four 4 of the major SCRRA Retro races will be on the fourth weekend of their respective months.

Perhaps running an extra King track race after the normal Flat track races in all the major race months (January, April, July, and October) would be a good idea as it would eliminate the need to always disrupt and tinker with the Flat track schedule and would satisfy the "warm-up" guys.

Basically, we would just be adding four extra King track races a year without disturbing the regular schedule whatsoever.  :)

I talked to Debby today and told her about the SCRRA's plans to add an extra King track race on selected Flat track race days and BPR certainly had no problem with that.

So... next month on the normal Flat track race day of April 9, we will also run a Can-Am race on the King track beginning at about 3-4 PM immediately following the FT races as a warm up for the Zimmerman two weeks later. We'll see how it works but in all likelihood we'll keep it up for all the major races!  :)
