The only twist to this build is that I have been waiting forever for a suitable body as this chassis has a 4.5" wheelbase. I almost went hardbody when I found this Champion Ford Talledega - almost too good to be true as it allowed my car to be "all Champion."

This body is incredible as it clocks in at a solid 8 inches. This is probably the largest slot car I've ever seen! The body came with an interior but I am burnt out on this build a little bit so it will have to wait.

Check it out.  Be sure to click through as all my pics are nice and big.

Chassis.

It was all I could do to keep the motor a true "Group 12" and not balance the arm but I managed to resist the temptation.

I'm no expert on Champion bodies, but I think they once made  aerodynamic door stops of a Ford & a Monte Carlo. The Monte had the extended rear window that was popular in NASCAR for awhile. This one might be the Ford, but I don't think either has been produced in years. I've never heard of anyone repopping them either. Bob Israelite would know the details of the two bodies I mentioned.

Great car Mike ! Love those...

After many years of looking before the internet I was able to put together a 4" eversion in 1989. It has the black can / blue endbell motor but with an unbal 15 arm

Bill,

I think you are speaking of the Champion "Just for Fun" series. Slammed Torino, Merc Cyclone, Monte Carlo, then later the Malibu Laguna, Matador and mid 70s Merc.

Thanks, Bob.

I've never heard of the "Fun" series.  All of those bodies really sound bitchin, though.

Here's a Champion shell I just picked up. Sorry for not perfect shots but it's the same squished/handling look :D Maybe from the same range?

Paul, your body looks like a Dodge Charger Daytona or a Plymouth Superbird from the late 60's & early 70's. I know nothing about the Champion bodies Bob listed above, but I think Lancer made a regular Charger & Daytona, both different than yours. REHCO repopped the Lancer Charger, I have a couple of them.

Hi Bill, it was listed as a Plymouth Superbird by Champion, no label and was already cut :)

Looks just as flattened as the Riggen Charger.

Paul,

I remember having a similar body to this one. I think it was a Lancer but I think the wheelbase was four inches.

The time frame was the later 1960's.
