Robert Manzitti's main gig is musician, a Hammond organ guy for traveling bands.

But up until the mid '90s, he was also known as The Sawdust Man, maker of slot car pit boxes. When his non-traveling partner got tired of making boxes, The Sawdust Man went into hiberation. And now he's back, making really nice boxes for traveling racers.

Bob brought a great display of his boxes to the Championship Retro race at The Track recently.

The handle Bob is using is one of the nicest ones I've seen, really beefy and very comfortable to hold.

I don't know if Tracy at SlotCars-R-Us retained this display after the race, but he told me he is stocking the Sawdust boxes. I'm sure he can arrange for any custom boxes you might desire as well.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Doesn't look like it, Steve.

He does have a Facebook page.

FYI my current box is one of the original Sawdust Man cases. I inherited it from the late Bob Emmott.

Wow!! My box is exactly like John's and I never could remember who made it. Mine is in a little better shape probably because I use to use furniture polish on it before each racing season. I didn't realize Jersey John and I had something in common, cool.

Mine came with an AC cooling fan that could be removed and set on top of the box. How about yours, John?

No fan, Freddy. Bob had all of his flexi stuff in here. The well-worn look is from being in a unheated outside garage.

Using Bob's case is a privilege and honor...

My Sawdust Man box is 20 years old this year. Been to many many races and several airplane flights and is still solid as the day I got it...
