...are nothing if not difficult to work with.  I got a setup built for a pair of these things and usually I paint the can before epoxying the magnets in.  The thing is, I have to be really careful not to get epoxy on the outside of the can doing it that way, or I can ruin a paint job.  So I figured, why not epoxy the magnets in and THEN paint...wrong-o!  As I was spraying the can, I could see the paint doing weird stuff that roughly corresponded to the magnets' position on the inside of the can.  It looks like the hammered silver paint has at least some magnetic dust in it for that nice silver color and the magnets are so strong that all showed up on the outside of the can.  Even though I had the inside masked off...some of that same dust went inside the can.  It can all be cleaned off and all, but that's going to be a job I'm not looking forward to...lesson learned darnit!

I cleaned it all off John.  I'm afraid to repaint it, so I think I'll just leave this one "au natural"!

Well there's an upside Mike...I've made another mistake to add to my growing list!

The paint was acting like the metal flux when you are testing metal for stress fractures. LOL I have had the same thing happen when using any metallic type paints.

I should have known something like this would happen Les.  I've used JB Weld to epoxy these magnets in to the can and, thanks to the iron powder in the JB...that's a real challenge!  On this motor, I avoided that (because of past...um..."experiences") and used the epoxy I do the armatures with.  I even made sure to clear away a LARGE area of my bench so that while the epoxy was being worked with, magnetic dust didn't wind up permanently embedded in the job.  :D
