Fishermen give this product good reviews for preventing oxidation of hooks in tackle boxes.

So I thought I'd literally give it the acid test - soldered wires to brass with a good dollop of Stay-Clean acid flux and didn't clean up.

The one marked "Z" gets a Zerust® strip. I dribbled a few drops of water on both and they will sit overnight.

The instructions say it won't help with acids or direct contact with water, but we'll see.

See if you can solder again to the Zerusted piece without removing the Zerust inhibitors? I hadn't previously heard of Zerust so I looked on Amazon.

Will it replace baking soda and a lightweight oil during chassis building?

No, but if it shows any promise you can bet I'll be putting a couple strips in my slot box.

You know I keep my cars clean, especially my vintage builds.

The question is, how clean was the last flexi that ran on that lane? :o :laugh2:

Bill and Pablo,

You guys should try my method. While building a chassis I bring it to the sink and scrub it with SOS pad. Makes it look nice and of course cleans the metal for more soldering. Never any rusting issues.

Mike,

When building, which isn't very often now, I use ScotchBrite and a solution of water and baking soda to clean and neutralize the acid flux. The completed chassis sees the sink, scouring powder, and an SS braid brush or old toothbrush. When dried, the chassis gets a thin oily rubdown and is placed in a Ziploc plastic bag. I haven't experienced rusting problems on my 40-45 year old chassis.

I'll have to give my wife's SOS pads a try.

It's got to be SOS not Brillo pads, per Mike K, Chassis God.

Bill,

If I start telling my wife what brand to buy, she'll be sure that I'm the only one who uses them. :laugh2:  I might as well get my own small box to try.

Looks about the same to me. It really wasn't fair to ask it to do something it says it won't.

But as long as I already bought 'em, might as well throw 'em in my boxes. :)

Make sure you throw them in your boxes, not your boxers. :laugh2:
