Hello all!

I recently acquired this awesome vintage wooden pit box. Has cool store track stickers (Groove Raceway, Sebring Raceway, Motor City Raceway, Brooklyn Raceway, etc.). It has the initials of the guy who owned it custom handpainted on top. It has tons of cool stickers and metal plate awards.

Notable races attended:

1) Michigan State Stock Car Championship 3-9-1968 The Groove Raceway

2) Ohio State Stock car Championship: 4th annual and 5th annual: Parma Raceway

3) and won the contest Concours d'Elegance 3-30-1968 Brooklyn Raceway

The initials on top of box R.D. handpainted as seen in pics.

Anyone race against or know wh this guy was. Jairus Watson suggest I post pics here t see if anyone could help identify.

Thanks to all who respond.

Might be a Ohio guy's box. Brooklyn Raceways and Parma Model Raceways were within walking distance over in Cleveland, Ohio. 36D Harbody Stock Car racing was real popular back in the sixties. They ran on high banked crossover and under figure 8s.

Mike,

I don't think it's Rick's. He is still using his box from the '60s.

It looks very similar to my slot car box from the 60's and I am still using today.

I also have the exact same Brooklyn Raceway sticker on my box.

Very interesting, but I may have raced against this person. I will check a few articles from back then.

EDIT: checked thru several Car Model magazines and I could not find anyone with initials RD.

Hey guys Thanks for all the great replies. May never know exactly but still an awesome part of slot history from the Detroit area. he must have built some nice cars to win the one De Elegance contest at Brooklyn. I just wish the cars and all the other goodies were still there. I think I am going to use it to store and haul my restored 60s slots to the local track.to play around with them. I am a big 60s slot car junkie. Born in 1961 so I missed the glory days( my opinion) I used to go to Toms Raceway in South Omaha in late sixties with brothers and neighbors. Most I remember is the wintergreen aroma LOL
