As an aside, the SVRA's 2016 Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational is June 15-19 and I'll be there most of the week on the crew roster for a Slotblog member who vintage races an Indy Lights Dallara.

This is the third iteration of this event. The first year I am told there were 751 vintage race cars; the second something like 689 cars. There are only a couple of other places on the planet where one can see so many vintage races cars (Goodwood and Monterey).

The SVRA does not advertise this event to attract spectators, although spectator tickets are sold. Thus there is unparalleled access for those attending. If you're in the area, this is a must-see event, I believe.

PdL will be there with his Cooper and Eagle, he as informed me.

Just to add a note, Terri and I attended the first Brickyard Vintage Invitational. It was an overwhelming display of classic racing cars, very much worth the time and the modest admission - I think it was $20/each.

If you have never attended a vintage event, this would be a good one to start with.

First In Line.jpg

A little of the old to go with the new at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Larry Bisceglia's, "Mister First In Line for the 500" for many years, van is parked in front of the Speedway's new main gate.

Larry was first, first in line in 1950, and held that honor until 1985 when he became too ill to make the trip. Larry actually lived in this van at times, back in Yuma, Arizona.

Larry passed away in 1988 at age 90.

I was there, I didn't see you.  :laugh2:  :tease:

If you remember seeing the green and white Kool Indy Lights car, I was on the crew with it. The owner is Scott Dick and he sold that car and bought a newer Indy Lights Dallara Infinity car. It's yellow, black and white. Greg and I will be helping Scott all week. I think he has Cincinnati Racing Team or something like that on the side of his trailer.

We were all over the place but mostly by The F-5000 Eagle driven by Tony Adamowicz.

Friday 5/20 is a good day to watch the stream as they can turn up the boost for an extra 50 HP.

Cheers,

VINTAGE DAYS during the week of the 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Wednesday May 25 DISPLAY ONLY

Can some one show me a site that says there will "for sure" be a display of the vintage cars on 5/25/16?

The official Indianapolis Motor Speedway website shows the practice lap days taking place on 5/26, 5/27, and 5/28, but nothing listed for Wednesday 5/25.

I am planning to change my flight plans and stay an extra day in Indy to see the cars on display, but don't want to change the flight unless I am absolutely sure the cars will be on display.

Thanks!

Video interview with Donald Davidson courtesy of the Indianapolis Star.

Terri and I had the honor of meeting Donald earlier this year, following his interview of Al Unsers Sr. & Jr. at the MiRPA spring banquet.

Assuming that it does not rain (it does not look good at this time), the vintage cars will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday in three separate groups. I am currently lobbying the Powers That Be to let the Cooper-Climax run with the postwar front-engine cars as it is more appropriate.

In any case, come by and say hello!

Sent from my seat in AA cattle class (another three hours to land in Chicago and get my connecting flight to Indee...)
