Everytime I pour from a 1/2 full gallon metal can of Naptha or Lacquer Thinner I end up with as much on my hands and bench as I do in my bottle.  I enjoy a cheap high as much as the next person but not the headache.  I know you are supposed to pour with the spout on top so air will vent but hat is easier said than done will holding the heavy can in one hand and a lighter fluid bottle with funnel with the other.  I have heard about adding a nail hole to provide venting but I don't think that is a good solution for Lacquer.  I haven't tried a gas can spout but i imagine it would pour fairly quick.  I tend to overfill my little Ronson  bottles.

Anybody have a good solution that would make it easy to slowly pour and fill bottles?

Thanks

Mrk

You use a clear intermediate bottle, like a 16oz. generic ketchup/mustard bottle, from Sam's or a restaurant supply store.

I punch a small vent hole in every kind of can I pour from. Lacquer thinner, mineral spirits, every kind.

My gas cans all have vents that are factory or that I put in to allow easy filling and pouring without the gulping mess of no vent in.

Another way is to stick a length of something round(brass tubing, steel rod, etc.) into the container you want to fill. Then pour your liquid onto that round object & it will flow down into your container,

If you are filling a small container use a wine thief.

If the container is larger, use a siphon tube to transfer from the larger container to your lighter fluid can.

A funnel would help.

Pour holding the can with the opening to the top.

Can't find a you tube clip to show what I mean.

I punch a hole and seal it with duct tape to prevent evaporation. Also if it is going into a small bottle use a intermediate container like others have said.

Like the below.

The wider mouth, and being clear, should make it relatively easy to pour into.

And then, squirting it into the lighter fluid bottle should be easier.

I wonder if the lid of those bottles would fit on the metal can?

I was just thinking a turkey baster would be about right for this. Keep one aside in the garage for chemicals so the cook won't get a hold of it.

The original post mentioned lacquer thinner, which will melt many plastics.

I once hastily grabbed the wrong gallon can to refill a plastic naptha bottle.  Soon the naptha bottle began to leak and the smell of lacquer let me know what I had done.  I emptied it immediately, but the bottle was ruined... and a funny shape.  Oops.

I found a glass turkey baster at Ace or Bed, Bath and Beyond for about $6.  That and a sqeeze bottle should do everything I need.  Can't believe no one makes a spout for the 1" lid.

When the cans are full it still runs down the top of the can. For the last 3/4 of the can it works very well.
