It was a gorgeous early summer day, with temperatures in the low 90s. The basement of Mike Nelson's house was cool, and the racing hot.
We were missing about 5 regulars because of birthdays, projects, work, or medical issues, but still had 7 racers show up for some great racing. Mike Nelson dominated the overall races on his home track, winning 3 of the 4 classes, but everyone was close in most of the races:
- Mike finished with 3 wins and a second.
- Ken had 4 podiums and one win.
- Kent came away with a second and a third.
- Tom had 2 podiums.
- Fred was 3 laps from the podium in stock cars.
- Dave was only 3 laps away from a podium in F1.
- John was one lap away in F1.
As normal, we opened with stock cars, with 6 entries:
1. Mike Nelson (in the only inline) 129 laps, 5.17 best lap
2. Ken Bryan 127 5.34
3. Kent Meredith 121, 5.48 (beat Tom by one car length)
4. Tom Brown 121, 5.41
5. Fred Irvin 118, 5.64
6. John Wimett 114, 5.77
Dave Z joined us for the Can Am race. Look at the fast lap times for positions 2 through 5.
1. Mike Nelson 134, 5.00
2. Ken Bryan 130, 5.16
3. Tom Brown 128, 5.12
4. Kent Meredith 127, 5.10
5. Dave Z 121, 5.13
6. John Wimett 121, 5.22
7. Fred Irvin 110, 5.60
On to F1. A gear ratio change helped me win what I believe to be my first ever race on Mike's track.
1. Ken Bryan 134, 4.999
2. Mike Nelson 130, 4.966
3. Tom Brown 123, 5.34
4. John Wimett 122, 5.13
5. Dave Z 120, 5.37
6. Fred Irvin 118, 5.47
7. Kent Meredith 115, 5.37
Last race, coupes. Fast, with Kent driving his best race of the day to a second place finish. Mike flew by us in the win, but five laps separated 2 through 5. And look at the fast lap times for the top 4. Very competitive.
1. Mike Nelson 140, 4.84
2. Kent Meredith 135, 4.87
3. Ken Bryan 134, 4.87
4. John Wimett 132, 4.91
5. Tom Brown 130, 5.12
6. Dave Z 118, 5.46
7. Fred Irvin 111, 5.47
