Tire Flyer.jpg

Over the last few years the quality of 1/24 slot car tire has declined seemingly due the fact everyone got their rubber from the same source, and the few tires that seemed different and were popular became increasingly harder to find and more expensive. Many racers were frustrated by needing to open up every tire tube at the counter to check for "bad" rubber.

RTR’s goal was to offer a quality, unique, and superior tire to the marketplace at a fair price. After months of searching and hours of testing we think we can now do just that...

Well, after countless hours of testing by top racers in the country RTR is pleased to introduce “Yellow Jacket” rubber. In the last two months racers using Yellow Jacket rubber have won numerous races and set track records all over the country. From Gerding Kings to Hillclimbs, this rubber has already won multiple Regional and National level races.

Yellow Jacket is natural rubber, not “Speed rubber" or “silicone." This rubber is truly unique and no other manufacturer carries this blend of natural rubber; it cannot be bought anywhere else.

Yellow Jacket rubber is available only in “donuts” at this time. The donuts have an approximate  ID of .375” and an OD of .985”. Great for Scale, Flexi, Retro, and even Hardbody racing.

Orders will come with a nicely written 10-step instruction guide to mounting the donuts on your hubs.

1 to 9 pair - $2.95 plus shipping.
10 or more pair - $2.75 plus shipping.

*SPECIAL* If you buy 35 pair or more you will receive a RTR Body Mounting Block free of charge. Your choice of 1/24 or 1/32 scale.

Shipping will begin around June 13, 2016.

To order, contact us via PM or via email at ralph@ralphthorneracing.com.

Only PayPal and credit cards are accepted. All sales are final, no returns.

I don't want to give a specific durometer reading because there are too many differences between users, durometers and hub sizes.

They are a few points softer then a "Retro" for me, depending on hub size.

Has any racing organization specifically approved or disapproved of these donuts?

Ralph,

I like what you are doing here, but do everyone a favor and send a few pairs to Joe, Bryan, and whoever else the powers may be, so to eliminate the drama from the start.

Thanks for the concern, guys. No need for drama here though. As far as Retro style racing goes, it's a natural rubber blend, not silicone or speed rubber. They are RETRO approved and have passed their "burn" test and I see no reason why they would have an issue passing any test from the IRRA™. Not to mention they've been raced for the past few months with no issues. These were made for slot racing of all types, not just Retro racing.

What is the width of the donut?

Is there a plan to offer these as complete tires and wheels or just donuts?

Thanks

That's the goal. However I have no timeframe, so for now it's only available in donut form.

Our Midwest hardbody cars use the 5/8" hubs with a finished OD from 1" - 1 1/8".  The 3/8" ID would be too hard to stretch.   Many drag cars use the smaller hubs with the 1" - 1 1/8" OD.

I have received my order today, thank you.  I have a race the first of the month at the Dungeon, hope Billy won't dq me. Maybe I just won't tell him that I'm using them.  He's pretty good on most things. :to_become_senile:Will report back on how they work on his home track.

Hey guys,

Just a quick Yellow Jacket performance report...

I used Yellow Jackets during the first half of the My Series enduro (Flexi Can-Am with Hawk Retros) race the weekend before last and I can say that they performed very well. Ralph told me that he felt that they were somewhere between natural (fish) rubber and treated and I would have to say he was right on the money as far as grip is concerned. Wear was bit more like natural than treated but for sure a very good addition to my tire arsenal.
