My name is David Steffin, I raced for a couple of years back in 1968-69 at Fast Wheels, House of Hobbies, and a few other tracks, with the likes of Herb Wade, Fast Eddie, Gil Gundersen, Dave Kimball, Mike Steube, and Tore Anderson.

My father, Robert "Boola Bob" Steffin, passed away Wednesday, June 8.

Bob was an original Boola Goop "chemist", a chassis builder, and motor winder. He was a founding member, along with Gil Gundersen, of "Team Guano" and raced all over SoCal.

Ron Kiyomura would often call my dad, talking shop for an hour or two. Ron assembled a few of my dad's classic chassis and put about eight cars together, then hand-built a beautiful storage box to house them. It was treasured by Dad.

My dad was suffering from Alzheimer's and was in a care facility the past year or so. My mom brought Ron's slot box over so Dad could enjoy it. He would take the cars out and gaze upon them.

I have his slot box (picture attached).

Bob was a great friend and a true pioneer. I will miss my Boola team mate.

I was just a teenager when I knew Bob, but I remember very clearly the humor in the name Team Guano, especially after he had to explain it to me! My condolences to his family.

My condolences go out to you and your family. I also recently lost my father so I can relate to what you are dealing with all too well.

Losing my father is part of what brought me back to racing and while I wish you had joined the group under better circumstances I do hope you stick around.

I'm a pretty new member myself but it's a great group of people always willing to help.

David...

Sad to hear about your dad. I met him and Gil racing at Wild Willie's years ago (mid-'80s) and always enjoyed his company.

Just remember the good times and take care...

If you remember
screw-on braid, motors that look like padlocks, that dang fuse wire in Cox controllers, "hand" painted bodies, the very first can motors from Mabuchi, and the smell of wintergreen then you are OLD!... like me!

Enjoy life! Race Slot Cars and read SlotBlog!

Bob was one of the fun guys at the Track. He allways raced sharp yellow race bodies.

My condolences to  the family.

Bob, Gil, Fatzs, Herb, all made slots and racing Fun. Many good memories away from track hanging out.

Bob will be missed.
