Why do I chronicle my builds on Slotblog ?

- proud of my work and like to brag - guilty

- bad memory and use it as a means to remember details of what I built - guilty

- want feedback, both good and bad, from my peers, mentors, friends, and casual observers - guilty

- enjoy the "friendly banter environment" and online camaraderie - of course :good:

Just wanted to make sure those who don't know me well, understand where I'm coming from.

I'm not an authority - I'm here because I build for enjoyment :)

Opinions and critiques are invited and always welcome.

Seems to be a lot of "arm-chair quarterbacking" posts here lately.

I have always invited relevant conversation, and even tolerated some friendly "drift" but I won't tolerate being treated as a newbie.

I invite your input and questions, but please don't mistake that as an opportunity to second-guess everything I do.

If it's irrelevant or condescending, don't be surprised if it disappears.

Cheater, please review all the "Hidden Posts" here, and moderate as you see fit.

Those of you who instantly go to "View New Content" and respond to new posts without regard for the thread you are posting to,

please think about it before clicking on the "Post" button. My tolerance for having to walk you through previous posts is gone.

Lately I've been accused of being an "A-hole" and a "Wanker" in my own sandbox.

It's getting old. I doubt you'll find anyone who has gone further out of their way than myself to help fellow Slotbloggers.

If you want me to just shut up and keep my posts to myself, vote via PM's to me.

I'll be glad to stop posting and close my "sandbox" if that's what the majority wants.

To further clarify, I think one of the biggest culprits in Slotblog miscommunication is the "View New Content" feature.

Stupidest idea ever, in my opinion. It makes smart people appear "not-so-smart".

Many bloggers, even some who I consider friends, simply click on it and respond to the posts with zero comprehension of the "big picture" - namely, the thread to which they are posting.

Although I have known Gregg and PdL (the founder of Slotblog) for more years than any of us would like to acknowledge, It is only in the past couple of years that I have routinely visited Slot Blog and less than that since I discovered Paul's subforum.  I now read it regularly.  One might ask "Why"  Our philosophies and approach to the hobby are very different.  I confess to being an uncompromising, "rivet counting" 1/32 scale modeler.  That said, there are two reasons:

1.  I am always ready to learn about new solutions to building problems (and there are many that are common to all slot cars.) and

2.  I simply enjoy looking at examples of really good craftsmanship.  I can spend a lot of time examining a 1" scale live steam locomotive or a miniature operating V-8 etc.

My vote: Keep doing what you are doing.

EM

I kind of like Pablo's 1/24th life. His builds are complete from choosing a body, assembling parts, chassis build, motor choice, body, paint, interior, mounting, final assembly, bench test, then the track test. Then if things weren't perfect, he makes changes, re-tests, then updates us on the results. If that isn't enough he also races at the local track. If I had a 1:1 race car I would want him on my pit crew. Hell, he'd be Crew Chief. :big_boss:

I use the "view new content" just as a quick starter at times to see whats being discussed, but most of the time I go to the Sub-forum "1/24th Vintage"i like and start reading there or I do a search for a topic but once there Ive "taken the time" to go back and read from the very beginning. It isnt hard to skip those posts of just short comments and jump to the meat of discussions.

I have book marked and saved photos of much of your works just for hopeful ideas of mine.

We both joined this forum back in 2006 (maybe when it was birthed?) I participate alittle you LOTS !! dont stop !

Heck I just realized your only a day's drive away ! Id pay to come sit and learn from you !

I'd agree it can be a useful feature when used properly - namely, to find new content.

BUT the poster should, at a minimum, know what subject he is posting in, and read the original post. It only takes a second.

Believe me, people are posting stuff all the time that has no bearing whatsoever on the subject or the original post.

For those who actually use my posts and photos, I don't think it's fair for them to have to sort through a bunch of irrelevant foof to follow along.

Thanks to those who are being supportive, I appreciate it :sun_bespectacled:

When I read your thread title I had a "cringe" moment....after many years working in education here in NZ that sort of lingo just crushes me.

I did get over it after reading on though.

For me Pablos builds are a breath of air in the race build threads/race reports/coming events plethora.

Keep on building please, keep on sharing please.....

I will openly vote NO to you stopping your posts!  People like me, use them as training tools.  In regards to the "NEW CONTENT" feature, you still have to read the original post title before you can select it.  So, people already know the topic and some of the subject matter before they post!  Just my 2/100!

I guess I just need to take a time out  :diablo:

Now I have fellow Slotbloggers telling me the shade of dye I used to color a guide flag is wrong :dash2: I can hardly believe it.

I wouldn't mind if they provided input before I do the work.

But critiquing it after the fact is just blatant "arm-chair quarterbacking".

I've had it.
