Well the event has come and gone. First off I would like to thank the following for providing race prizes and raffle items:

Mike Kravitz (sponsored F1 & CA)

Dennis Samson  Samson Classics)

Tony P

Edsel

Tracy Brown (Go Fast)

Noose  (Custom Painting by Noose)

Steve Koepp

Paul Pfeiffer (Alpha)

Parma

Mike Swiss (Chicagoland Raceway)

Jim Lange (Hi Tech Racing)

Gator Bob

Mid-America Raceway

Kevin VanPelt (beverage sponsor)

Diana Dyckman (beverage cponsor)

Schatz & Associates (RetroPro)

Everyone was very happy with all the goodies we gave away. If I forgot anyone please let me know.

I have to thank Noose and Reggie for all their help in making this event a reality. I would have liked to have a better turn-out but we had a very good group of racers and had some great races, especially Can-Am on Saturday which in my mind was about as intense as you could ask for. Results are elsewhere on Slotblog so will not go into details.

We did take some time to remember Manta Ray Price and Sano Dave (thanks, Mike Kravitz).

We had a variety of issues throughout the weekend but everyone pitched in and we worked through them. The whole concept behind this event was to provide a venue that racers could bring wives, family, friends to a fantastic place for a nice vacation, lots of socializing, and a bit of slot car racing thrown in for good measure. By all accounts we accomplished what we set out to do. For me, the laid-back atmosphere allowed us to get to know one another better and have lots of laughs, not to mention a fair amount of beer and drinks before, during and after the racing.  :shok:

Finally, thanks to all that came a long way to play with toy cars. It was a pleasure and hopefully we can do it again down the road. :sun_bespectacled:

Bernie,

Let me second the thanks for the prize donations. Outstanding!

I want to also thank you as well as Noose and Reggie for an event that had all the attractions.

Just an aside. I was fortunate enough to win the raffle for the Dennis Samson F1 chassis. That was enough to push me off the fence and arrange to go to the SWC at BP in July. Thanks, Dennis, a real quality piece of work. Even more so now that I've had a chance to really look it over.

Now a highlight from Monday after the racing.

This was Monday when the Katz's and us took the double decker bus tour. As we sat in the lot waiting for more people to arrive, one of the tour workers was leaving. Well, when he went to go forward the car's throttle stuck wide open. He bounced off of two cement barriers and then spun and t-boned the bus just behind the rear tire. We saw it and felt it. All were OK but was pretty wild.  The bus took off later on and the tour commenced!

Are they planning another Caribbean Retro race next year? If so, I'll be making my plans now. Thanks.

Noose is right. If another event is scheduled it would be in 2018. We are kicking around a date change to early September hoping that will increase attendance. Also the classes offered may change as well.

Reggie is going to try and get a local retro program going. That will give them a full 12-18 months to get up to speed. They have some very good drivers there which would be fun to race with.

I will be in St Maarten again in October for the Wing Car race and will go over some of these items with Reggie. :sun_bespectacled:

Well if you want ideas for class's--I'd LOVE to go with the Can Am F-1 and Retro Pro we run out here in the west! That would be great fun for the Retro guys-- I don't think the IRRA guys would mind going lighter for a change!! It's a great challenge-- or if we need to--we can get up to 100 grams as well. But those three Retro class's are our most popular.  Looking forward to what you come up with.  Is the weather better in Sept as well?

We ran F1, Can-Am and Retro Pro this time.  If the track suits F1s by then (We had to do a lot of blipping this year), then I see the classes being the same.   If not, we would go with Coupes then.   Yes, IRRA® rules would apply as they did this time.

I actually spent some time on the beach and in the water there too. Unusual for me! Great location with the hotel a short walk from the raceway.

The water was warm and refreshing when we took a dip at both the Pasanggrahan Hotel on the boardwalk and Orient Beach.

The cars do not need to be any lighter than 100 grams especially running on Reggie's king at 13.4 volts. 3.8 is fast enough in Can-Am.

Better than the racing, were the gatherings at the restaurant/bar or Holland House with everyone after racing at Reggie's. Caribe beer and local rum rules!

September/October would be perfect for us. We do a "honeymoon" trip every year in the Oct/Nov time frame. That would enable us to make make a longer stay of it. Has my vote!
