I painted the Honker. I usually paint with a bottle of Miller Genuine Draft. This time I did it with a Coors. I blame the change from Miller to Coors for the shade of purple being more red than the pictures of the real car.......

I like the color and think it will build up into a nice looking car, but I know the "scale police" will be after me. I'll have to lay low!

I have a  Tom Andersen repopped Honker to put on a Pablo-built Cukras brass rod chassis. Both items are almost "vintage" now. :)

No worries Rick, there are many shades of blue and red that are very hard to match.
Even mixing McLaren yellow/orange is a gamble.

The car is very pretty as is.

After the stripes are on it'll look GREAT!

The only time I saw anyone win a race with one of these was Sandy Gross at Berwin on their Engleman style track.

I've been struggling with my nemesis..........detail painting with brushes that won't stay steady.   :wacko2:  After many hours the challenge is almost done:

Steube%20CMRA%20Racer%2072.jpg

The decals have been given a light coat of Testors Glosscoat and are ready for me to give them a go. I have Patto's 1/32 scale which are a little bit too small and 1/24 that are a little bit too big.... :dash2: :sarcastic_hand:

Do your decals like NASCAR ones -- 1/24 on hood and 1/32 on sides.

Here's the finished car:

Steube%20CMRA%20Racer%2076.jpg

I love the big "Honk'n" pipes:

Steube%20CMRA%20Racer%2077.jpg

The interior is just a piece of vacuum-formed plastic but with a little paint (even from my very shaky brush) I think it provides a nice level of detail with minimal weight to hinder performance:

Steube%20CMRA%20Racer%2078.jpg

Thanks to everyone who followed along with the project. :)

It's a favorite of mine. A super low and wide slot car that still looks a lot like its period CanAm full size racer. Thanks. :)

The detailed interior & the "Honk'n" pipes really make this a visual standout!
I'll have to remember to draw on these builds for detailing ideas.
Thanks for sharing all this experience.

Rick I apologize for going off topic.

Have you tried tumbling old dirty endbells for your restorations inorder to bring back the new white endbell look,i no longer have my tumbler,so before i go out and buy a new one i want see if youre aware of any good results with parts like this, also whether old dry tires could be rejuvenated from these old relics using the tumbler maybe with corn cob and leather conditioner, thanks.keep up the good work the body looks like a concours winner.
