Okay, the Retro bug has bitten me and I am now infected. A buddy built me my first Can-Am and I am looking to go race at HVR this weekend. The car is just a JK Retro chassis with bushings all around but we all need to start somewhere. The car is now set up with a 9/28. Any suggestions as to gearing would be great. I do not expect to be fast but I would like to be in the stadium when i go on the track.

Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Welcome, Chris, and look forward to meeting you Saturday at HVR. 9/28 is just fine. Braid depth is 35 thou.

Here is the LINK to the Retropalooza race report from HVR. Look at the report and it gives what the winners used.

Chris, don;t be afraid to ask any of the racers for help, that's what it's all about.  If someone is having problems of their own, they will probably help enlist someone else to work with you.

Joe, you are the father. Thanks guys. I hope to see you there. Any suggestions on what paint colors do not work on the track there. I think I may need to paint a new one to make it easier to see. Hopefully I get out tonight to test the car and shake out some cobwebs at the local track.

Lucky you. This was just hashed out recently:

It's a black track. Use something you can see.

Noose, thanks. I will definitely pick some contrasting colors in the oranges and yellows and greens.

Tim, I will build my own once I am able to get a good builders block. I need all the help I can get when building.

Chris,

Welcome to slot car racing. I run out in Ca. at BPR. No matter where you race, other racers are more than willing to help.

I've been racing again for about three and a half years, and I still ask for help here and there. At our track, guys like Bryan Warmack, Mill Conroy, Duran, Gary Donahoe, Jim Lane, Phil Nyland,  Tim Neja, they'll all help out, no problem. I can paint, mount my own bodies, set the gears, but, if I need some assistance on set-up or something; these guys are on it, NOW! You'll find the same thing where ever you race. The big boys always seem to help us lesser racers without question. You'll do fine. And guys like Noose will be there for you. You'll learn alot from these racers.

Alright, I had a blast yesterday. Met all the big shots and got some great ideas. Now I just need to learn how to drive these high speed tracks so I can get out of that E-main. I hope to see all of you again. And I will bring those sun glasses back for marshaling.

Glad you enjoyed yourself Chris.  If you're interested, they are starting up the Sunday retro races at Fast Tracks in Bechtelsville PA, to prepare for the Retro East season opener.  Good way to get the hang of this super fast little bull-ring

Jersey John, I know I just got to run more high speed tracks and figure out those donuts. Donuts seem to be my weakness. They always have.

John, that sounds great. I will need to figure out to get another day off from the wife so I can stop on by. I may even get out there for the Penn:Jersey series.
