That's a great start!! One suggestion,  more acid flux, more heat, less solder!! You'll enjoy seeing your new build go around the track too!!! Very satisfying when it's your own creation!!! NICE!! :)

Welcome John!!  Nice first effort!!  A few suggestions if I may--It looks like you did not polish the metals before soldering them. This is one of the most important steps to getting a strong and smooth solder joint. I use a Scotchbrite pad to scuff up the brass and get the steel really clean. Also I suggest having a motor attached to the bracket at least to get the center section started. And do what Tim said!! Hope this helps.
