Retro Stock Cars on the Figure 8 – 8/16/16

 

Nine drivers presented their retro Stock Cars for technical inspection at MVH this week as this somewhat new class continues to draw more interest.  Racing was still in the outer 4/inner 4 lane-format to have adequate corner marshals. 

 

John Weaver and Bob “Woody” Hazelwood were the fastest cars on the track, both logging 3.45 second laps.  The next fastest cars were over 1/10^th of a second off their pace as Ray Lee, Peter Lentros and Dick Griffin all put up lap times of 3.57 seconds. 

 

However, fast laps don’t necessarily translate into high finishing positions as both Peter and Ray were in the hunt for 2^nd place while Woody fell off the pace.  In the end, John walked away with the win with an 18 lap lead over Peter who was able to hold on to 2^nd by two laps over Ray.  Woody finished in 4^th, 8 laps back.  Further back in the pack there was some close racing as Richard Payne claimed 5^th by 2 laps over Dick Griffin and Ernie LaChance took 7^th just 2 laps ahead of Rich Girvin.  Dan Savage completed the field.
